Clear Epoxy, Cheap?

I want to find some epoxy to use use on our pong table. Some of the stuff Im looking at is 40 bucks a gallon, wanted to find out if there is something better/cheaper avaliable.

I think I only need about 2 gallons. Its going to cover a set of caps.

Any negatives of using polyurathane epoxy?

Wouldnt resin be better suited for that. Granted epoxy might be stonger but you go to a marine store and buy a 5 gallons of resin for cheap. Just a thought

Any more info on which particular type to get? And how transparent will the resin be when it dries?

clear (clean) = expensive , does not matter what you use.
It is that simple, I pay up to $50 for a galon of resin called liquid ice, it is extra clear, sandable and transparent.

Is that something about the clarity level of plexi glass?
Again, I want to cover up beer caps and have 1/4" to 3/8" of the resin accross the board.

It is crystal clear. Liquid Ice You can go as thick as you wish, build up thickness though, you might have to apply 5 or 6 layers, this thing gets hot while curing. It is sandable, you might order sanding agent and mix it with it for "easy" sanding. Allow time for each layer to cure - 24 hrs. you might find dust or dirt on the surface, it is ok, just sand the dirt off (400 grit) before pouring the next layer.

Off hand, no, most likely it is available under some brand name, "liquid ice" is brand name for SelectProducts. Try exclusive marine stores or some plastic supply shop. If you live in NYC, there is a plastic store on Canal St. PM me if you find it, I work with it a lot and know what to/not to do with it as far as mixing is concerned. I have no problem sharing with others but I might miss your question.
