Has any Aussies actually managed to install an LCD in the BA? Damn its a crap dash to try and get anything into!!

Mine is the stock BA that does not have the colour LCD as pictured (otherwise I would use that).

I am thinking of mounting the LCD on a bracket next to the existing screen (not overlapping the airbag) OR just on a bracket OVER the old screen..

Any other thoughts our suggestions would be appriciated!!

BTW the entire centre console is a complete unit, and the integrated radio cannot be removed. the screen also shows the Heater and Air Con settings! (does not really worry me if I cannot see them - I know if the AC is on or off

this place does upgrades from the factory crap LCD up to premium colour one, nice and expencive though

I want to know if u got the control module for the colour LCD, could u scrap the factory LCD and bog in a lilliput screen or something into the dash

Effectivly letting u keep all factory radio/aircon controls and display, but on a larger display with the added bonus of possibly touchscreen for a mp3 computer

Thats what I made for my Lilliput when I had it. Although I binned the lot and just went for an aftermarket deck to do DVD and MP3. I plug in the laptop to the factory screen for nav.

a mate from work with a Ba bought a spare center plastic bit from asl and choped out the screen bit and relocated it down the bottom and installed the liliput where the factory screen is... seems to work real well.. (i havent seen the final result yet),
but that involves cutting and extending about 60 wires..
Ive got a BF and im not going to cut any wires JUST YET so im planning something like bob^ has done..
BOb^ why did u bin it? what was wrong with it down there?

I dont mind extending wires

I dont have the factory screen and i sure as hell dont have 1100$ to upgrade to a halfassed LCD :P

Is there anyway take the data from the screen and feed it to the pc, then install the lilliput in where the screen used to go so that the PC controls the HVAC / radio functions? I remember someone talking about the inputs to the factory screen and how they might be able to recreate the functions on a PC and LCD screen. Just a thought.

Ive mentioned this a couple of times, since the base model uses a simple segmented LCD there SHOULD be a pin for each segment.

So say you want to display the volume bar on Liliput LCD via a PC, there are say 10 segments, all of them light up for 100% and 1 for 10%, so thats 10 pins going to the LCD. If you used a USB/Serial box that wired into those 10 pins you can get each pins status via software, the screen overlay is just a little bit of programing away. I dont think this could be done with the colour screen.

What i would like to try with the color screen, would be to send the output from the ICC that drives the LCD, to an aftermarket LCD. That way you have the nice fancy factory colour display, with high res VGA, s-video and a larger LCD. I belive this is possible as apparently when the Sat nav/DVD mods are in use it grounds vsel pin and according to what ive read it bypasses the ICC completly and goes straight to the screen. What this means is it may be possible to take the signal from the ICC that drives the LCD and feed it into an aftermarket one like ive said above - My idea here is that since it bypasses the ICC, the ICC must also generate a NTSC/60hz signal to feed the display rather than being intergrated (which is still possible)

This is all speculative though, ive gotta wait 6 weeks till i get my BA, to pass the time ive been doing plenty of research ;D

The easiest idea ive heard to get a 7" LCD in the factory position is relocate the screen to the tissue box as said above, which is all i might do. As getting a new ICC module to drive a colour LCD will be expencive and im not even sure my idea will work :/

I was going to buy one from ASL to remove the stereo component of it completely and then integrate an aftermarket headunit into it. $1300 put me off the idea, and I'll stick to the headunit mounted under the ICC.
djmickyg - I binned it(literally) because for what I wanted the carPC mainly for(mp3s and the occasional movie), it made more sense to buy an aftermarket deck. Ended up with an Alpine DVA-9860 that plays DVD's as well as MP3 off DVD. It's much easier and quicker to use than a carPC(boot times etc) and I wasn't happy with the way some of the front ends worked occasionally(read: I couldn't figure them out)
My composit to RGB converter has 2 video inputs, and I use one of them for the laptop( I need to buy another GPS receiver though, because I sold mine). It comes up okay once you increase the font size, etc. It's not the best, but hey, it gets you out of them difficult situations!

I've also started developing a patch for the BA steering wheel controls to run the Alpine deck. It's all breadboarded up, just need to lay out a PCB for it.

Hi im new to this stuff i want to install a dvd player into my XR6 BA i have only got the base ICC would it be possible to install an alpine unit with a motorised screen into the tissue box if so could anyone give some ideas how to wire and install thanks

What converter do you have, I am struggling to find a Video Card that is compatible with the ICC screen, so I will just have to shell out for a converter box. This is what I get

Yeah better than what I managed to get using a video card! Mine was constantly scrolling, just couldn't get the sync right.

I have just bought an XR6 BA 03 it has the base ICC screen i thought of installing a Alpine IVA-D100E with the 6.5" motorised touch screen how would i go about wiring it and how could i install it into the tissue box? could any one help

Pandaman, look up ArcadeVGA. You can use that in the BA on the ICC.

Wardy, scrap the tissue box holder and make a new trim panel that goes in its place. For wiring, you have ACC and GND already behind the tissue box holder, aswell as the illumination wire on a light fitting thats normally used to illuminate a cigarette lighter if you have one.
For constant power, run another wire from the battery side somewehre, just remember to fuse it.

Will try that, but I'm a bid worried. The video card I have now was supposed to work just fine, but obviously doesn't.
