I'm replacing a piece of my dash that will end up being a hinged cover (I hope) for my motorized screen. I'm guessing that fiberglass would be lighter and therefore more desirable because I want to use the smallest motor possible. If I used fiberglass, how would I go about making a duplicate piece? Would I tape it and put foil on it and apply fiberglass on top of that and that would be it (as I've seen in tutorials), or what? I've never used fiberglass before, so I don't know...

Here's what it looks like - it's fairly flat with two holes for the air vents:

i'm no expert, but why don't you cut the piece you want out of that piece, add some material behind it for strength and call it a day. that way it would be the same material and look nicer. just an idea.

Yeah, I don't want to cut it - for now I'd like to leave it intact, just in case...

its always a good idea to pick up a spare. you could try a junkyard near you, or call the dealership. then you can cut into one and play around with it.

Man up and hack up the original. That's what I'm doing right now.

FWIW though, I don't have the cash to go pick up a new one, or else I would.

I guess I'll ask the service guy tomorrow when I get my brake pads changed; Mazda 3 brake pads have bad squeaking problem

just glass it it will be easier and it will be lighter... all u gotta do is wrap that ***** in tin foil and lay like 2 layers of matt on it and then pop it off pritty basic just check out some fiberglassing websites
