I don't suspend my system, I do hard offs. I was thinking about implementing hibernate, but i would have to get rid of the GPS maps on the flash to make this possible. Right now my cold boot is fast enough for me to not need to hibernate. If you would like to try my XP image PM Nislo. He has it up his FTP server. Post back with your results.

How much do you charge for custom work?

it all depends on the complexity of the work and how much time and materials I use. For a custom aluminum enclosure, built to specs starts around 100$

Hiya, I've read through most of this thread, but i've got one question.
when playing music etc, how do you get it to carry on from where you left off? or cant you?
i mean, every time you boot, does it not try to play the same song?
I'm loving what you've done by the way, both the fab work and the software. excelent job.

Well the OS boots to the same state every time, so yes it is always on the first track when i start. I have my frontend load with random enabled and autostart music disabled. So basically I hit the "next" button and then hit play and I have my random song. There are a few limitations to using an embedded os but the advantages outweigh the limitations for an automotive application. So far the OS is running great and very responsive. GPS app is much faster and more accurate running from flash also. It seems to update faster. Also since i did the embedded OS I took the power scheme away from my ignition controlling it and just have a hard on-off switch now. This way I can just leave it on if im just stopping in somewhere for 15 minues or whatever and just leave it on. Also I don't need my keys to turn it on. When Im done using it i just hit the switch and it does a hard off. (the switch also controls my amp remotes)

Thank you for the order ras22_b! Bent your chassis today at work and will have it shipped shortly.
Im also working on a 'chrome' edition chassis. I built this for me but its an .063" unfinished aluminum chassis that has been buffed out so the metal is a satin finish. It has a really hardcore tech-e look to it. Although the epoxy finished aluminum looks really clean, this buffed metal looks show worthy. May begin another bolt in PC with this one, 'chrome' edition, only best of the best parts in a mini ITX form factor.
Will have pictures of both up soon

This is probably a stupid question but is anyone going to see it when it's installed? Or is the front part where the monitor goes have a chrome surround you can see? Guess the pictures will explain.

Nope no one will see it. Except the owner when bolting the PCB's to it. I've built so many of the white chassis that I thought I would try something new with the unfinished. Plus I had a perfect size scrap to bend one up. I buffed it out with fine steel wool and was impressed by the finish. painted chassis is probably still a better way to go but just wanted to try something new. This is a pic before I started buffing. The chassis on the left is yours ras22_b.

Wonderful install!! It looks beautiful.
I wish I could do something like this, but I have a ScionXB. The Metra kit for this xB doesnt look like it would be friendly to this project
Here is the kit if anyone wants to give their opinion if it would work or not:
As you can see, its only the sides.. Its not a full, rectangular kit.

BLK02si... awesome job.
Do you have any experience with Euro double-din? I have a 2006 VW passat and would love to get one of these for it. My understanding is that the depth and width measurements for Euro double din openings differ slightly from US double-dins. Let me know your thoughts on that..
Thanks!
Nola

I would measure your OEM radio. Forward me the dimensions and I can bend you up a chassis that is an OEM clone out of .063" aluminum.
On a softer side of things I am running the digital_FX skin on roadrunner now. Im also trying to get flash running on my embedded OS. The Digital FX skin has some nice flash gauges I want to see in action. Copied 4 new albums to my media drive. So the PC is still up and operational, Only downtime its seen have been for upgrades. Its also about 10 degrees here and snowy and the PC has been booting perfect. The xenarc takes a minute to warm up to full color and brightness this cold but its runs great after its warm. Amps are working fine in the cold, want to add some tweeters to the system.
Ill also note that the mustang is running amazing. She got 5 new quarts of GTX and a new high flow K&N air filter last night. I change the oil every 2k with 5w-30, but I DRIVE the car so I breakdown oil faster. The engine has so much torque when sucking down 10degree air.
Oh yeah I installed my HID lighting system on the headlights also. Been busy with other automotive related hardware too

Not quite sure I understand your question. I didn't move any controls. The interface is a touchscreen, thats how you input commands. My setup has no hard buttons, only a rotary volume knob.
