I did purchase the kit with the middle bar in it, when I was looking it was the only one available. The 2nd kit looks to be the same deal just without the bar. I removed that bar with a dremel tool on mine. Once you have done the trim mod it makes swapping out a new screen very easy, as I have done a few months ago. I swapped a Super for a Xenarc, there are pics earlier in the thread. The LCD bezel was also pretty easy to mount, I did no other trimming except for that bottom row of buttons and other than that it basically "snapped" into place. The epoxy i used is now over a year old and has not broke cracked or otherwise even moved from where I applied it. Im going to be doing a FAQ writeup and I will go in to detail about the LCD mount.

Sorry to bother you again man.
This is the screen taken apart next to the Metra Ford kits (95-5812). This one is exactly the same as the double din of the 99-5807 kit
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...C/DSC00069.jpg

Yes, if I cut the bottom of the LCD bezel, it will pop right in.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...C/DSC00070.jpg

But there will be a gap between the forth most and the bezel.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...C/DSC00071.jpg

Well, I didn't really see that gap in any of your pictures. Does yours has that gap?

No mine does not have this gap. I forgot to mention that I trimmed a tiny bit of material off of the metra kit to make it sit flush. I also painted the super bezel with high performance black paint before I epoxied it so that it blended better.

So, from the looks of things, you are still turning out the double din cases? I'm getting closer and closer to tearing apart my new Tacoma. I should probably start convincing the wife first. Blk, you have done a great job with your install. Also, special thanks goes to NiSlo for hosting the iso.

Yep Im still turning out enclosures. Im still sourcing the HQCT module and my do another OS build soon. I've got a motorola razr phone and it has a USB port on the side. If i plug it into a PC usb port it charges the phone (better than buying a car charger) When plugged in the phone allows the PC to control it. Im reading up on integrating the razr into my setup. In my next OS image I think i am going to try having only the OS on the flasg drive so i can enable the 'HORM' or hibernate once, resume many feature of XP embedded. Apparently this allows about a 5 second boot when you turn the car on. I would need to move all my programs and map data from the flash drive to for this to happen, or get a larger flash drive. Either way I'm planning some more hardware and software config

I was wondering how the HQCT integration was going. Is it hard to install? I am still waiting on mine. Also, if you have a chance can you upload those pictures of the hacked mouse you used for volume control?

Well I'm actually still looking around for the HQCT. I will probably just buy it form the mp3car store. I was hoping to find a member in the classifieds with one but so far no luck. I'm going on vacation to colorado to do some boarding, leaving on thursday and returning on tuesday. St. Pattys celebration with slippery inclines When I return I most likely order it. Here are the pics of the hacked up mouse you are looking for

HQCT module ordered from the Mp3car store tonight. Almost forgot what FM/AM is like. Also bought a IDE > USB adaptor and a longer xenarc lcd ribbon cable. Parts will be here this week!!!

Again the carPC, although running perfect, will be pulled for major hardware and software updates. I designed an entire new skin from scratch for this setup and hopefully will be using that too. A new embedded OS is going to be deployed on the flash drive with some updates to use flash (software) and to be able to connect to my V3c phone. Stay tuned for more hardware hotness and lots of pix. . .

Also Im thinking about trying out the PSU200 power supply since i don't use an ignition power scheme any more. Smaller form factor, less wires and MORE POWER Hopefully someone who has used this supply can chime in to let me know if its an ok supply or not.

HQCT module is here. I've been reading a lot of information on it hope to have it up and running soon. I will take some more pics and the carPC will be pulled from the stang in the next couple days to make a mounting bracket and start the software. Here is a crappy phone pic of my new module.

The HQCT module is complete !!!

Im so glad it came together relatively pain free and it works really good. Stations are clear and RDS info works great. Here are a couple pics I took (with my V3c again) of the mounting of the module. It ended up vertical Right above the CF card. Also is a screen cap of Luc's tuner program, this essentially is what RR is controlling. This is the business end or backend of the radio module. If anyone is wondering about hooking up the HQCT you need to make a USB header > USB header cable, you need a CD_AUDIO cable, and you need Metra antenna adaptor 40EU20. I bought it at circuit city.

Im looking forward to some morning talk, its been over a year since ive had fm/am in the car lol. But don't worry I have not forgot about my media drive, thats also about to be packed with an arsenal of new albums.

Wow that looks great, I didnt think they were that far along with its progress. I still thought it was a pain to get working, I might have to consider this finally.

Yeah the HQCT really is not that bad to work with. I guess I fall under the "advanced hobbyist only" category.

Hardware has been running great and solid for awhile now. Love the embedded OS. So i decided to turn my efforts to the software side of things and am near completing coding my own RR skin for this setup. Its filed under RR>skins shock skin - preview if anyone wants to check it out.

Also I've sold 4 more chassis in the last 2 weeks and I've been adding radius corners to the sharp edges. Cutting them on the router yields show quality results!

Wow I really want to do somthing like this in my car...

Question are you still running the hardware you have listed on the first page? are is that all updated now? Is it possible to get a complete list of what you are using and what you are running.

I have read about the power supply you have listed on the first page giving people problems... did you have any problems with it?

Thanks

Keith

The hardware is listed under my user name, carpc specs. I am still successfully using the M2-ATX. I've never really had any problems at all with it. In fact I bought 2 of them and both are still running strong. I ended up selling the second to my stepbrother who is pushing a full atx athlon with it. As long as you don't overload one of the rails and have a clean primary connection It works great.
