Its an aftermarket trim kit made by metra. I got it at circuit city. All I gotta say is that double DIN was made for a 7" touchscreen

Dam, that's nice.
Did you have to trim the LCD case to fit into that double DIN kit?
Got any picture of the pre "glue"?

Sorry no pics of the pre-glue. Yes I did trim the bottom buttons off the touchscreen housing. Other than that it slid right into place. I used 2 part epoxy (plastic welder) to fuse the parts together. Thank you for all the nice comments! I am a perfectionist when it comes to building stuff, and am lucky to have acces to a lot of metal tooling & metal stock. So yeah I ordered the power supply form the mp3car store to show my support and they charged it to my account 6 times and it says its backordered? Figures the final piece i need for the install gives me 10x headache. I need to contact the admins and figure out whats up

Very interested in your design

I too have the 05 mustang and am dying to try building a car PC. Was the super touch screen you used, easy to remove the buttons? Do you still need access to them once they were moved to the back of the case? How does the screen look in the day mounted in the car? How responsive is the screen, does it only take a light touch or to you really have to push on it? Have you had it out in the heat for a while? I live in Texas and it occasionaly gets 110+ where I live so I can only imagine what it gets to inside the car. Sorry for all of the questions but the screen just keeps holding me back. I actually like the Shaker stereo but the screen is so out-dated that I can hardly believe they bothered with a screen if that's what they were going to install. I've seen late 80's 1-DIN radio's with more graphics and a better look then that POS. Thanks

Mike

The super is great so far, very bright has a wide viewing angle and is easy to dissassemble with out breaking anything. I used an exacto blade to do the small ribbion cables. Patience is your friend when working with these small screens. I used a dremel tool with a cutting wheel to remove the buttons. Please make sure to remove ALL electronics before cutting the bezel! Just my disclaimer The screen is very responsive, it will beep on touch like OEM but i turned that off. Also im running the very newest 4.3 beta drivers from egalax. These drivers make the super 'scream' They have many more calibrate options than the older drivers. Very light touch, i find if I use my fingernail to touch I can even run windows XP explorer GUI just fine even on this tiny screen. I havent totally installed the whole unit it yet but ive been watching the angle the sun comes in the the new stang interior and I dont think it will really be a problem. I love old - skool design. As far as I know cold is worse than heat for carpc problems. Electronic semiconductors usually run pretty hot anyway. If the screen is holding you back you could do the same thing with a xernarc or lilliput. Never tried those but i can say you won't be sorry if you get hold of a super. I have not even seen the shaker system yet, i bought the lowest radio setup I could (save the money for the pc) since im notrious for replacing the entire audio system anyway. Ill get a pic of a DVD running on the screen when its in the car so you can see the res it runs at.

Dang, now I have an even bigger desire to build the car computer. I wish I would have done as you did and save the outragous option cost for the shaker but I decided to go with what they had on the lot, I got the GT at $2500 below sticker which was good at the time. I've already changed out the shifter to Hurst, added the Push-Button start, and tuned the computer with the predator, the stereo is next!

I'll probably go ahead with my plans on an Alpine 1-din for now and then build the CarPC during the next year. I'll also try to get a damaged double din Ford radio from the wrecking yard, gut it, and use the case from there with the Metra kit. I can never get my aluminum sheet projects to come out straight and square (that always bugs the crap out of me).

What are you using for an amp? How is the sound through that? Thanks for the help.

Hi Mikey, The metra kit actually has 2 complete kits with it, one is the trim for a double DIN kit that im using and the other is a single DIN with a pocket underneath it. If you need the trim for a single DIN, paypal me 15 bucks and ill send it to you. Its sitting in my closet collecting dust. Ill take a pic if you want it. I take a lot of time when im bending, measure everyting twice, etc but still the pieces don't fit somtimes ifyou bent it wrong because you have to take into account the bend radius. Im using a rockford fosgate amp under the pass. seat at the moment but im upgrading to alpine componets inthe spring. Ive been hoking up PC's to my home stereo for years and I always tune it to get great sound. Im grounding my amp o the PC chassis to avoid a ground-loop problem. But anyway my M2-atx will be arriving at my shop today and I have the weekend off, woot! So i will be installing and il let you know how it goes. Im interested in the push button start, any pics or links? Also I wonder if the hurst will work on a 6 banger, thats what ive ot but its still a stick. Should have shelled out for the GT not only for the engine but the suspension also. Im already looking into buying some GT stablizer bars. I daily drive my car too, so i look for fuel effiency when i buy. Anyways ive got to go to work, ill be back later with the M2, MuhahaHaha

Here's some pics with push button start. The close up is not mine but it does look exactly like mine. The one from the side shows that it's recessed and doesn't look out of place. You'll also note the hurst in the side pic.

I love it! And the best part, it looks completly stock. The Enigine Start part lights up just like a stock button should. The trim is chrome and matches the AC vents trim. Most people, even ones that have driven other 05+ mustangs want to know how much that option was. Let me know if you need more detail on it or if you need more info, it was real easy. I also did a write up, I think I was the first, on how to cheat the onboard computer and allow the fogs to run with the brights. It only takes 1 wire and two splices! I live in West Texas and you need all the light you can get at night when driving around here.

Thanks for the info and offer on the kit. I'll probably buy the same kit here and use the 1 din for now and work on the touch screen with the other half of the kit.
