Where are you getting the longer ribbon cable from for relocating IR PCB?

joe, as everyone says...good work man. I would love to know if you can make one for a 2006 maxima. the maxima metra kit is for a single din only. but im sure with a dremel I can make it double din.

I read most of the thread, skiping a few pages to get here, but how much is a set up like what u have. simple not overly crazy. screen, case, mainboard, hd, etc etc...bare minimum ...

Most of the parts vary pretty heavily in price depending on what you get. You can go as cheap as $70 for the Intel D201GLY or spend as much as $200 for just a miniITX mobo and still need to buy the CPU. Screens are the same way. The cheap Lilliputs go as low as $260 or you can spend $700+ on a transflective.

I went to install my case this weekend Joe and it seems that with the cables (VGA, Serial) sticking out the back, I am short about 1/2 inch or so. Any tips to help?

Hello blbrchnk,

Make sure you route the wires good otherwise they bunch up when you slide it in. Also on my mustang there was a wire harness that I moved down about an inch or so for more clearance. If you stick your head down by the floor boards and look upward you can see the rear of the chassis and see how the wires are flowing. My best advise though is patience is virtue! Don't try to force it into place, take your time and it will eventually slide into place easily.

I'll look at that. I now have other problems I have to address such as my touchpad not working anymore (it quit somewhere when I took the unit out to the car), figuring out which serial cable wire is the DTR so I can send the amp turn on signal, and trying to figure out how to remove that little black plastic piece from the antenna wire so I can plug in my radio.

Finally got mine installed this evening. Couple of last questions for those of you in this thread that have mustangs like I do, I know there are several.

1. How do you remove the cigarette outlets?

2. How do you remove that stupid black plastic piece off of the stock antenna wire? I built a female connector for my silabs chip as has been described all over the forum, but that black plastic piece is preventing me from getting it in there. Other than that, it is great. Many thanks go out to blk02si for all of his help and for the case!

The cig lighters are a bear to remove but they has 3 or 4 tabs that need to be pressed at the same time in order to remove the mounting ring. I seriously had to stare at it for awhile and reverse engineer the thing to remove it lol. As for the antenna, mine did not have a black plastic piece attached to it, if it did I would probably just cut it off with some side cutters.

Joe,

Can you show how or elaborate on how you disconnect the Ribbon for the IR PCB?

I got my screen the other day and hacked off the bottom of the housing with my dremel, however I'll most likely keep the IR PCB and will need to pickup that extension ribbon. I stared at it for a bit the other night but I didnt see how to disconnect it.

I've been taking tons of pics and will post some in the worklog when I get closer to completion.

Anyway - After hacking off the botton where the buttons are and doing a test fit, the xenarc housing fits snug into my Double Din opening so I wont even have to use a Metra Kit. The Kit for my car is pretty much junk anyway and there is no way to mount it to the case you made me, so I'll need to improvise. But I'll get into that in my worklog (eventually when I get around to it).

Sorry, been very busy, I have been meaning to update. The ribbon connectors are released by pushing the small brown tab forward towards the ribbon itself. An x-acto blade or very small screwdriver comes in handy here. Putting it back together is really the hard part. Make sure its lined up perfect as even a few degrees off and the cable won't work. When the cable is in the clip perfect, push the brown tab toward the connector and you will feel it close and grip the ribbon. Hope this helps, I can take some pics if it will help.

Just thought I would post a few more teaser pics of the Chrysler build. It's coming close to completion. I really have taken a liking to this pico board, it posts faster than any motherboard I've ever used. Finally got a 44pin female > CF adaptor from overseas so I can use the 4Gb extreme III now

The last pic is my special 32mb CF sandisk I have for testing IDE>CF adaptors to make sure they work / boot. It's running the most recent version of DOS. Too bad no frontends run on DOS as it boots to OS in about 3 seconds right now

Wow, I just read all 46 pages of very useful information. I cannot wait to get started on my project! I too will be purchasing one of these chassis' in the near future for my 02 mustang. I do have a question that maybe you guys can answer. Would there be a way to make the lcd removeable? I noticed a post where the member made it retractable which is definitely a step in the right direction!

I'm glad you are liking the 3g connection & your Blackjack! I happen to work for them & have the Blackjack II.

Now that my text size is @ max, I think its time to get some shuteye ;-)

Why do you want the LCD to be removable? If you are thinking about theft, an even more effective measure is to gut the OEM radio and make a "look alike" cover to go over the screen. If it looks like a crappy stock radio prying eyes will look else where.

I do like the blackjack, I actually like the hardware better than the blackjack II. I am running windows mobile 6.1 though, which makes a huge difference in the useability of the phone.
