This will be easy to impliment in the JK design, due to how the trim kit and bezel are. I can't wait to see this implimented!
That sounds good Patrick, I am working overtime on this trying to get it done for the Ohio trip, there are a couple factors I overlooked when deciding to use the pico board, such as the I/O plate. I had to make a custom USB header, and custom audio header, since all I/O is done via headers. Not really a big deal to make them, just time consuming. I ended up going with gold plated RCA jacks for your audio connections
Here's what she's looking like as of this morning:

that looks out-freaking-standing! I see there are two sets of RCA jacks. Does that mean I have fade control?

I would think it's Line In & Line Out

Why do you want the LCD to be removable? If you are thinking about theft, an even more effective measure is to gut the OEM radio and make a "look alike" cover to go over the screen. If it looks like a crappy stock radio prying eyes will look else where.
I do like the blackjack, I actually like the hardware better than the blackjack II. I am running windows mobile 6.1 though, which makes a huge difference in the useability of the phone.
Theft is pretty much my main reason. I was thinking if I could get a hard, durable cover, I could implement some sort of locking mechanism. This could in turn lock the cover down which would protect the screen. From there I could have it hold the PC chassis with a solid item in the car. Once a thief realizes its not coming out, he might start hacking away at the interior of the car, but at least the PC will be safe

Quick Question
First post here, forgive me if my question has been answered, there is too much info to absorb at once.
Been following your builds and am floored!
My question:
I have an 07 prius and am looking to replace the stock head unit. it measures 7" x 4" and is 6" deep. there is a little room behind it for cables and such.
Is there a 7" screen that will fit in that space? I expect I will need a custom bezel since there is no dash kit for it.
Also, I am planning to mount the PC elsewhere, so my main concern is the screen.
I am going to try and make a drawing in solidworks or something to mock up the dash.
Thanks for the assist guys!
Kelsey

Hi Joe
First off I must say I'me very impressed with your handywork. I've delayed my pc install for more than 2 years and I'm finally going to get off the pot and get this thing on the road. I was hoping I could do that by soliciting your skills at making me a box to mount my pc goodies in. They're already installed in a Travla C138 ITX Case but I would like to see if you could mount my pc components into one of your custom cases along with my Transflective display. I can send you the specifics about what I had in mind so as not to clutter your thread. It took me more than 3.5 hours to quickly go through each page tonight.
Would you be willing to take on a unique project?
cheers,
John

Well John,
You asked at just the right time
I am putting the finishing touches on the JK build and once that is complete I will have the space and time to work on another bolt-in carPC project. If you could email me the specific hardware and requests and i'll see if I can help you out. You can mail me at joe at shocknet dot us.

Wireless USB pin header module for your builds
Hey Joe,
check these out, they may be of some use in your builds.
http://www.logicsupply.com/products/vnt6656g6a40
I've got one installed on my CarPC now (in the process of being completed) - and it works great.
Might be an option for your customers that want wifi, but can't use a PCI card.
(Of course they could use a USB stick, but I just thought I'd pass it along).
I'm happy with it so far, and there is a link to the drivers on the link I posted.
Note: You need the Pigtail too, its not included, but its on the site as well (under accessories for the module).

Hey Joe!
I finally got the carputer about an hour ago. I had just missed the UPS guy by about 10 minutes and had to wait until 7pm to go to the UPS warehouse to pick it up. Everything looks awesome!!
I have a few questions before I begin to install.
1. Is it set up to turn on automatically when the ignition is on or do I need to install a switch to turn it on and off?
2. The touchscreen control box: I noticed that the only vehicle power source was a cigarette style plug. The control box says it accepts 12-24Volts DC. If this is the case I should be able to cut off the cigarette plug and hardwire it into the back of the cigarette lighter.
3. I have one set of rca's for input and one for output: Say if I wanted to have hd radio and Sirrius. I should just have to get some rca Y-adapters right?
4. Does the unit come with wifi? If not, no worries, I'll just get a usb wifi dongle like the one that is installed for bluetooth. I figured out how to use my 3g phone as a through put for internet tothe carputer.
Imay not be able to install tomorrow (still waiting on usb ports from mp3car. I'm sre I'll have some more questions as I go along.
Thanks again Joe!!
