Double Din Case - No Monitor

Has anyone decided to build a double din case for the computer and not try to intergrate the screen into the dash?

I have a Nissan Patrol 4x4 and the location of the double din is too low for me to put in a screen there. Also I would like a larger screen than you can intergrate into a double din case. Hence I am thinking of building a case that fits into the double din slot and houses only the computer.

As there will be a large amount of room in this setup I was hoping to intergrate a Slot Load DVD/RW, Radio (HQCT Radio) as well as wireless and oem GPS module. I believe that all of this will fit into the double din sized case. I am planning to use a Via MS12000 motherboard for maximum flexibility and a xenarc 8" or 10" touch screen.

Has anyone got any experiences close to this? How did you build your case??

Thats how i made mine, .063 finished aluminum and a metal break. CNC is not really necessary although I did use mu CNC machine to make the I/O port plate

I wish I had an access to CNC before. Actually i found the company to CNC the front bezel - the only part I would not be able to do manually with files.

Hi
I have stalled my project because Nissan in Portugal doesnt sell the font face of central console that suport double din radio HD... (http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/atta...1&d=1126580043) Plus I dont feel confortable to rip my original one and build a custom one like that (chek in this forum) for example:

http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/atta...1&d=1126580101

anyone know if there is any after market front face for central console for Nissan Patrol Y61 or someone that could build a custome one... or anyone in europe that could ask local Nissan is there is any double din avaliable (wood or not wood like) for patrol Y61 (dec 2000) left hand version?

thanx...

Patrol Dash Panel

If you can't find one local with a double din space. You could try to find one in Australia and have it sent over. I know of a couple of people who would be happy to do this for you. As far as I know all the Y61 models released in australia have the double din space.

that is one option, I think in UK you could find some to. but in this case all button are reversed, plus the design is a bit reversed. my patrol is left hand drive.
