Scion xB laptop mount in cubby hole - draft pics

just something i threw together in mspaint... this is what i want my new mount to look like.

just a history - my original mount ( http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=73500 ) was OK. i have a tablet laptop and i used it in tablet mode, meaning, the keyboard is under the screen.

since i used the onscreen keyboard a lot (for typing up addresses into navigation software, and other reasons) i felt it would be better FOR ME to have the laptop/tablet open in a normal "L shape" - meaning i open the screen and use it with the keyboard out.

since my current 99 cent mount won't do, i've thrown together a diagram of what i want the new mount to look like. kindly sip some liqour or WHATEVER YOU DO to enhance your creativity and imagine the picture below in 3d.

pros: lightweight mount since it's aluminum, removable, holds laptop open nicely, area where laptop rests would be OVER the shifter (i have an auto, this idea wont work on stick unless u wanna heighten your chance of having an accident), and the best pro of all and why i wanted to do this: it's "cheap", can even use the mouse button as a "next" button for my mp3s (mouse pointer over the fwd button on winamp) <--- may seem like a trivial point but you dont know how difficult and annoying it is to try to hit next on the touch screen HOLDING the tablet pen and going over bumps.

it also solves the problem i have with my current mount - on rainy days, i cant access the temprature controls/drfroster/AC, etc. with this new mount, when i want to access those controls, i simply pull the laptop screen down for a second, do what i want to with the controls, then put the screen back up.

cons: bulky, ugly looking (depending on how u do it), illegal in some states to have a laptop by the driver (like i give a f), it MAY hit the drivers right knee or passengers left knee (will work on even making the mount "RAISE" the laptop platform), etc..

i want to use aluminum, bend it in the shape as shown in PINK, and then cover the entire thing in like a fabric finish so it won't scratch the laptop. the laptop will be held onto the mount in 3 ways - the flap at the edge of the mount, pointing towards the back of the xb, which will "squeeze" the "wristpad" area of my laptop - and also having 2 flaps on the side which will keep the laptop in place, so it wont go side-to-side.

i welcome all critics, lovers and haters alike to gimme insight on this idea....

it's only an idea for now, until i find the aluminum to build it...

^^ Yeah but it looks like it's only really close when in park. if the person is in drive, imagine the shifter like 4-6 inches away -that's not so bad.
