Im looking to do a custom bezel with a 12" sideways widescreen like the OP. I dont have a bezel within a bezel though like the OP describes.

I have vinyl dash surround with a large hole I want to fill that usually has 3 plastic dash panels in place one on top of the other (instead of an inner and an outer). I cant use all 3 in 1 bezel because the top and bottom pieces are pull off slips giving access to the middle piece screw in clips. I want to make my own bezel but I will have to create my own removable mounting system and I was wondering if you have any ideas for this. Ive added some pics below.

I would think to build some sort of framework behingd the 3 bezels combined into one, then have it hook at the top, then pivot down & get locked in place with a few lower screws only...

What if..

I cast a mold of all 3 pieces together with fiberglass. I shape the mold to exclude things like air con vents, din opening, ash tray and cig lighter using tape and foil. This way I can choose the position and size of the bezel hole, and also could use a resin based bodyfiller to form it, which I find much easier to use. I would still use that hook and screw system.

that could definatley work, in your case a complete fiberglass new bezel can be a good idea, theres not much of the existing stuff that's usable for you anyway....

turbo- You've seen my bezel, but the one I used with your method was for a 97' Talon TSI with an 8inch t/s monitor which I managed to sqeeze in pretty good. It came out like this, but I can't find the images of it painted. Cig. lighter was relocated to the side of that panel where the monitor was installed.

And a BMW 530 with a 7in Xenarc700TS. I used cardboard to support the back, then used the Urethane Bumper kit to fill in the rest. I don't have pics of the processes...but here is the result!
NOTE: All that is there is the monitor, two pieces of thick cardboard that was hotglued to the monitor and then filled with the same stuff. two layers of cardboard was used on the botton half and then glued the wood trim pieces into place to match the rest of the dash!

I'm looking at doing a similar build, and was wondering exactly how you apply the dynatron around the initial gaps (ie - the large arced gap between the screen bezel and the factory faceplate on the sides)? Do you apply it directly onto the tinfoil and then peel the tinfoil off the back once it has dried (15mins)?

Thanks! :-)

yes, the tin foil is like a mold of sort, it will contain the stuf till it hardens, the tin foil doesn't release as nicely as I would have liked, but on the back side it wasn't a problem

I missed the post above yours, but primer I mean primer, I used a bumper primer for flexability & buildup, but a regular primer should do fine too.
