2006 Mazda3 in-dash lilliput: Finnished

EDIT 1/11/08: Finished a bit ago, just found the time to update.

Hey, I started to make my in-dash touchscreen, and wow, this is deffinatly annoying, lol...

I've never done something that even when I start to get to the point that I can visualize it a lil, I still feel like its messed up, either way...

Here are some pictures so far, I had to use the single din metra kit, and chop away until I got something I could work with. However, I do have some questions, I've seen people move the lilliput buttons, but can you completely chop off that part of the screen, as in the housing and everything... I've searched but not really sure what to search for....

Also for other mazda 3 owners, I'm having some issues with the metra kit, it seems there is some type of gap by the climate controls, where the kit should be holding it in or something, not sure what you guys did... I guess i can just hold it in from behind it, just currious.

(Also, I don't actually have the lilliput, can't afford one 'til the summer, so i just got the housing... if anyone see's something horribly wrong, just let me know.

Doesn't "In-Dash" mean that your screen is suppose to traditionaly fit in a single din enclosure and go straight into ur dash???

Since you so helpfully pointed out how my "edges look horrible" (insert sarcasm here) over in my original thread, i thought maybe i would help you out with your climate gap.

Because i recently did the same project, i noticed that too and was able to fix it. After close examination of your pics, i noticed that there is a crack in your metra kit. This is caused by the dremmeling off of the pockets of the kit. If you look closely at the center of the insides of the metra kit, there is a crack which actually deforms the kit slightly. This slight deformation will cause the gap that you see between the climate controls and the kit.

Try removing your lilliput and pushing from the bottom of corners of the metra kit. Also, the climate control can actually wiggle a little. I found that pushing it upwards helps close the gap. Be careful because your metra kit is probably quite fragile at this point since your removed most of the plastic that kept it strong.

If this is still unclear maybe i'll post a pic of what i'm talkign about next time.

Good luck.

Can.

you talking about the crack where the seperator of the two compartments were? If so i tried to keep that together but the screen wouldn't fit in right, so i just did away with them, I don't know why they made it curve in there and not just keep going straight... stupid metra.

but yeah, think I'm going to just bolt it in from the back, there is two holes in the climate controls in the white plasitc, I'm going to see tommarow if they'd be strong enough to strap to the back of the opening.

And your edge's at that point were horrible bro, lol
(did come out nicely though, and I am using it as a guide for this one, so thankyou for stepping up to the challenge before me )
