Can't seem to find this answer anywhere, (if its there, forgive me)..
How would I go about connecting the 6 channel audio from the computer to the aux-in on the headunit? Or do I lose the functionality of the 6 channels?
My intent is to have the HU for radio (with aux in), and all other functions performed by the PC. I have 1 4-ch amp to drive the interior speakers, and 1 mono amp driving the subs.
As far as I understand it, I should be running the 2 pairs of lineouts from the deck to the 4ch. And the 1 subout pair to the mono amp. As you would with any car audio setup.
How do I keep the 6 channels on the PC?

Just after thinking about it,
What if I reverse it, and have the 6-channel audio go straight to the amps instead of the HU. Then have the HU send audio from the pre-outs to the sound-cards Line-IN. Would that be the best solution?

Ok after check all threads I still don't know how to wire my car pc with the sound system in my car.....
This is what I have:
-Factory HU with 6 in-dash cd player,steering wheel control,but no outputs. :(
-Factory amplifier with 400 watts.
-Carputer with VIA Vinyl Six-TRAC Audio AC' 97 codec onboard audio.
-Two tweeter, front door R/L speakers, rear R/L speakers.
What i want to do:
-Keep my HU intact.
-Use full 6 channel of my carputer.
I been thinking on geting one of those FM modulator the one that you can find on radioshack but I don't think is the best option,or maybe run the sound front the carputer directly to the Amp.but that means create some kind of interruptor between HU and carputer(don't know how).
I really don't know much about my amplifier and i don't want to kill my new carputer.
Thanks eveyone...

I'm still a noobie but here's what it think might work for you.
you'll need two hi-low converters. you can pick these up for about $10 each at a local stereo shop. hi-low converters allow you to add input RCA jacks to stock HU's.
splice the hi-low converters to your front and rear speaker wires and get a 4 channel amp. use two channels and plug that in from your front channel output on your carputer. use the sub/mid output and plug that into the other two channels and bridge the two channels to wire your subs to it. and you'll have to rewire your speakers to run off the amps and not the HU.
hope this helps!
now my turn to ask a question. i'm wondering if those radioshack rca stereo y-adapters to plug the speaker output to the amps is sufficient? generally, higher end RCA cables for cars are thicker gauge and shielded. and i'm going to be running these y-adapter cables from the carputer to my EQ and then to my amps. i don't want them to be the weakest link and hurt my sound quality. anyone know if it actually makes a difference, and if it does, where can i get better quality rca stereo y-adapters?

I would like 5.1 in my car. I found a 1/2 din in-dash speaker w/ built in amplifier. Can I run the audio from the center/sub into both the center speaker and my amp for my subs? What would I need, just a RCA spliter? By splitting the signal would I lose any sound quality?
Yes I've searched the forums some for an answer, I know people are running 5.1 sound cards but no one really has said if they are using the center speaker.

My headunit has 4 RCA female inputs (front left and right, rear left and right). I am going to buy a mobo with either 5.1 or 6 channel sound, however all of the boards that I have seen have only a single output. How do you go from a single output to the 4 input headunit and still get the proper sound?

In the via epia mobos there is an option in sound properties that turns line out and mic in two line ins.

Hey,
I've got some noobish question which I hope someone may be able to answer.
Firstly they are regarding hooking a laptop up the headunits sound.
OK 1st question is the wire on the diagram (#4) aux adaptor - that connects to the back of the head unit?
Secondly the headunit which I have is a Pioneer DEH-P3500MP ( http://www.car-audio-uk.net/car_head..._Cd_Player.htm) and as far as I know it has no aux input, but I think you can buy an IP bus in order to enable AUX. So for my headunit I would have to buy the IP BUS then connect that to the back of the headunit then connect that to the laptop through the stereo rca cables?
Thanks

Hey Lucky...Yes, you are correct in both counts.
I have the pioneer 7600 and am currently using ip-bus adapter for aux in with my ipod...which works just like your line out from PC sound card.

Is there anyway to do this if I have the amp just powering my subs? Also, I have an input on my HU, but its for the cd changer, i have a sony HU.

I have a 4channel amp for the front/rear speakers wired in already and am getting another 2 amps for a pair of 12" subs, so would i just wire to the 4channel amp?
I'm not too sure on how to wire up the subs as it is, does anyone have a diagram to help?
Also by using: Y adapter with RCA jacks, Y adapter 1 phono plug to dual RCA jacks
does that mean i can effectively use anything with a headphone output i.e. portable mp3 player etc?

probably already discussed in the 5 pages, but I stopped reading at first page
really, you will get sound using a 1/8 to RCA converter, but the sound quality is terrible compared to using a digital output into a digital to analog converter and into your amp(s)

I really wouldn't go splitting the signals. Consider upgrading your sound card first. What sound card are you using? Is it only stereo? If it's multiple (4, 5.1,etc) channel you can use another output. A clean 5.1 soundcard for under $50 is Turtle Beach Santa Cruz.
Check your primary 4 channel amp. It might have outputs to go into an auxilary amp.
