FAQ: Front Ends & Support Software for Car PC's

Thanks to JC-S60, here's a link to a list of Car PC front ends and support software.

What is a front end? A front end is a unifying application that provides a common interface to several functions in the Car PC. Commonly, those functions are Music (mp3's, and other formats), DVD's, Photos, Telephone control, etc. Many front ends allow you to embed applications such as navigation inside the front end to prevent you from having to switch to that application.

Support software performs a range of functions, usually fairly specialized, such as GPS tracking, file synchronization, skinning of front ends, etc.

Because there are so many, it may be overwhelming choosing a front end at first. I believe it is best to choose several to download at once (maybee even on your desktop) and learn them. Once you find the one that best meets your needs and system requirements, install it on the carputer.

great post bugbyte.... wow, i didn't realize there was so many options for front ends on car pc's... it really is interesting to see them all and see how different each one is.

I have to say after looking through all those, the Streetdeck does look the most professional given the offerings and options it has
