We should add the way to kill the "windows scheme" (because nobody that is booting directly into the front end wants to hear those).
So the way to do it is going to control panel\sound and audio devices\sounds
and kill all the schemes (global ) by puting "no sounds" in the firts box or killing one by one in the second box.

Good suggestion. Added to the information above.

Disable Balloon Tips in XP
Use Regedit to navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Advanced
1.) Create new DWORD value, name it EnableBalloonTips
2.) Set it to 0.
If EnableBalloonTips is already there and equal to 1, set it equal to 0. Quit the registry editor, log off, and log back on. No more annoying balloon tips.

Step 4: Uncheck Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby
Step 5: Using the Microsoft Powertoy called Tweak UI, select Logon > AutoLogon
Step 6: Enter your username and password (if any) and hit OK
Note: To suppress autologon, hold the shift key while the system is starting.
An easier way to do the auto login is to go to run and type "control userpasswords2". It will bring up a dialog box. Select the name of the user you want to log in and then uncheck "Users must enter a user name..."
Very simple and quick if you dont want to download TweakUI

I found this guide to be quite usefull:
http://www.whotspot.com/p_kiosk_prep.htm
Especially for those carputers that you are building and selling for others. (Obviousally you need to tweak the guide to your needs)

for frodoplayer, how much time does this save during booting. Right now, i have frodo on autolaunch, and it is 5sec opus delay +8 sec bois + 22 sec windows +8 sec services after my destop loads, before frodo opens up, then 17 seconds before frodo plays, I hoping that this can reduce that 8 seconds between when i see my desktop (by getting rid of that) and by the time frodo loads.

Has anybody had internet explorer not load web sites when going directly to a front end? I'm using Road Runner and when going directly to the frontend i can't access the internet.
hmmm......exiting out of Road Runner and going in to frodo player allows me to access the internet and going back in to road runner I can now access the internet.
I did hit "work off line" earlier, but unchecked it right after hitting it perhaps it has created a setting somewhere? Tried uninstalling roadrunner and reinstalling it, but still no internet when booting directly into RR.
Doesn't work when booting directly into Frodo player either. I could have sworn I was going on-line before when booting into a front end.
Yeah I guess hitting "work off line" farked something up because I just ran a test on my desktop and had no problem going on-line after booting in to RR. Oh well I had planed on reinstalling windows on the CarPC anyway as I've only had it running to test out various programs and such.

Alternatively you can also run Carshell as your shell. Carshell will run any applications that you have in your startup folder (including front ends) and reduces boot time. (usually by a few seconds) You can also run your other applications from it and it works as a basic desktop that is easier to use in the car, and provides an easy checkbox setting to switch between explorer and carShell as shell.
More information here

Newbie question:
What is the command line I enter into FP for explorer?
and what is the command line for Calculator?
What's the easiest way to find these command lines? IE: when I right click on properties for the calculator, I can't seem to find the command line.

%windows%\explorer.exe <-- if you are useing xp and did not change the installation dir then it is c:\windows\explorer.exe
%windows%\%system%\calc.exe <--- again it the above is true the path will be C:\WINDOWS\system32\Calc.exe
The easiest way to find them i suppose would be the search function "by files or folders", but you can also just browse in explorer to look for them. A another way is to right click on a shortcut to the program and click on the find target button, it will open a explorer window to the path the file is located.

Hmmm, tried both of those. Both end up in FP as "false", must've typed them wrong or something.

fp may not accept system variables like that.. you may have to specify the full path.
