for clarification, the yellow line is trigger only, it does not draw any signifficant power. you can run whatever size line you want, as long at its not smaller than what the opus comes with.

Someone should add to this FAQ, how to connect the 10g (suggested) red wire from wiring, to the Opus 14g red wire. Some say use a block distributor, others say solder, etc...

After posting the correct answer, someone please delete my post (this one!).

Just to clarify this, the Ignition wire is a trigger / sense wire only. Meaning, it doesn't have to be any fancy wire. Any circuit inthe car with ignition switching can be used.

what if i want my amp to turn off at the same time as the 0pus. How would you recommend that i connect the IGN line of my APM to the OUTPUT of the 0pus. Where can I tap in so that I won't have a major malfucntion with my 0pus. Can i connect my amp's ign to one of the 12 V leads going to my fan. That way if there is a voltage drop it is only in a minor component like a fan?

Now, if i do this my amp will stay on until my 0pus shuts off, that way i get 5 more seconds of music?

Tell me if im wrong

btw its an 0pus 150

Yes, you can connect it to the 12V of the fan or any other 12V lead. It won't hurt the opus. The amp just need the signal to turn on and off.

on that last one, how is there no circuit being completed from the battery??

On the second picture, there is a distro block which is being used. All the grounds are being connected to that and then the main ground from the block is connected to the cars chassis. In the first pic the opus is connected back to the battery for the ground, the battery itself it actually connected to the cars chassis for the ground.

The first pic also has a big "OR" showing that it can go to the battery "OR" ground to the car chassis.

yeah, the second picture doesn't have the "OR" because it is simpler to connect to the car chassis. You want the ground to be small as possible.

Some images of the Opus 150 power connectors w/ part numbers, in case anyone else needs to order these for whatever reason. I got these from Mouser, but the Mfg P/N should be the same wherever you purchase them.

(I'll be replacing my Opus 150 w/ zootjeff's new 220w psu, and it would be a real pain to remove the Opus' wiring in my dash.. so I'll just use one of these connectors with the new psu.. problem solved.

I had a question about wiring gauges for the diagram in this post and it was answered here, so I thought I'd post it for others:

Hope i got this in the right place and no one chew the crap out of me.I read in one of the posts that as a rule of thumb if you need more than 200w of power you should use an inverter, Whay cant you just buy 2 or more dc-dc power supplies and run them in parallel to almost double the wattage output?
At work when we need a more powerfull power supply we usually just add another power supply of the same model and brand in parallel to double the output current.

You probably read that in my power supply FAQ. You can run them in parallel. Of course, that means that you have to buy two of them.

And I presume you're thinking you run the mobo on one PSU and the other stuff on the second PSU. That will work unless you can't split the power up between the two.

Also, there are some new PSU's out there like the DSATX that help with those higher power boards.
