I think you'de be better off just changing wheels to one with the radio controls. If that's too enspensive, another alternatiive is to get a clip-on remote. Pioneer makes a real nice one.

I tried out the Pioneer unit and it worked with my cheap IR reciever. Something to think about for those who do not already have the buttons in the wheel. |

If its a digital cruise control signal then its a little harder to interface with. You need to figure out the sequences etc. Not worth the hassle.
If its analogue (resistive ladder) then its definitely possible to interface the controls to your PC, but I wouldnt recommend it. The idea of linking accellerator and music player controls just doesnt feel right IMO.
As was stated above, a separate (or factory integrated) controller would be better.

Strange, what year is your F150? You might be able to swap a factory wheel with radio buttons and then just stick a thin remote inside the wheel to wire up the buttons to. If the cruise buttons light up at night, you could tap them for lighting the radio buttons as well.
All you'd need then is a reciver for the PC and a program like Girder to get it working.

I'm still working on getting my CarPC finished but soon I'll start on my project for wheel controls.
I have a 2000 Trans Am, so it has the classic resistor ladder, (very common for GMs) it should only take a bit of coding to get a Pic Microcontroller to read the resistance and send it as a byte or two to the serial port on the PC. Then a program running on the pc will catch the signal from the port and emulate a keyboard press. All you’ll have to do is click ‘learn’ press a button on the wheel then assign a key-combo to it (Ctrl+P, Alt+Tab, F11, whatever!) When I get done I’ll make the software and hardware available in some form or another.

A buddy of mine over at my Focus forum added a selector switch inline with the signal wire. Position 'A' was unaltered, while position 'B' added a resistor to the signal, in effect, allowing him to DOUBLE the programmed key assignments...
Kinda like a "SHIFT-button-X" as well as "button-X" on the same button!
My car as volume up/down and a seek paddle and a 'mode/enter' button...5 functions. With a position switch on it I can program 10 functions now!

I have a 2000 pontiac GP so I also have the 1 wire resistive setup. I've been looking for a cheap way to integrate the controls and my plan is to try God Of CPU's gameport technique to try to hook up the controls and see how that goes.
nfsp_trans_am let us know what your plans are for the controls and what the cost is and stuff. For me it has only cost about $15 so far I just ordered a pci soundcard that had a gameport and spliced into an old controller.

Someone tell me again...the PAC interface works remotely by IR?
Will any generic IR add-on for the PC read this?

Well I'm finally getting around to hooking up my SWC. I'm using god of cpu's method but right now I can't get the CPU to recognize that a controller is hooked up to the gameport so I'll have to see if I have a problem in my wiring.

Well it seems that a gameport is not going to work for my computer. I bought a PCI card that has a gameport but it seems that it will not work.
But, I found a thread ( http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/inpu...-controls.html)
where people used a USB controller and tapped into the analog stick so thats my next attempt
