Another member found this. Seems like a real nice cheap solution for you guys that have the IDT, and want a usb 2.0 compatible solution.
And from the looks of it, it should not have any issue interfering with the spring mechanism, just by looking at it.
Should be a nice solution, considering sources that sell these just hiked up the price from around 45-50 to 70+ for the same item not too long ago.

Looks good. I put the one I did for this post in my Camaro. I just bought a new Dodge Ram last week, so I plan on doing the same, except I'm going to do the slot one also.

In case you're curious I used Panasonic UJ-85J for the DVD drive and that Slim to USB shown above and had absolutly no clearance problems leaving the 4 posts in tact.. In fact it helped keep the drive level in my opinion. I put 4 strips of the foam double sided tape in between the posts, and I took a decently thick rubber washer, cut it in half and took some good glue and glued the halves down right behind the drive to help hold it in place.. I was concerned the tape might not hold completely.

So how well are those laptop cdrom to usb adapters working for everyone? I am looking for feedback before making my final decision on how I am installing my DVD drive. I have the 700IDT, but am debating whether I can do something better.

this looks great, i am thinking of doing this but also torn because i know about that new xenarc coming with the slot load and usb ports and power buttons etc (plus am/fm and internal amp) but if i go this rought i will save about 4-500 bucks.

Nice write-up
Anyone know of any UK suppliers for the above interface ?? It's only $9 but another $24 shipping to the UK. It would be cheaper to get the complete enclosure from LinITX for me. Seems to use the same interface board but includes leads and enclosure.
http://linitx.com/product_info.php?c...roducts_id=829
^^ About $26 delivered.
Might have to get a slim slot loading DL DVD burner for it. Scan have one for $89 shipped and the regular slot CDRW drives are $93 shipped at LinITX.
