After trying many different frontends I've gone with Road Runner as well. It isn't all that difficult to setup/install and the updates come out quite regularly. I know I'm not mentioning anything new in this post, so I'll just agree that it's easy to skin and there is alot of support from all sides and it handles everything (including embedding apps in my experience) wonderfully

I have tried them all and have stuck with Mediacruiser.
Reason being, its easily customisable, not particularily resource hungry and covers my needs for now. ie, GPS, MP3, Movies, External Programs..
My system is fairly low spec, and running a slimmed version of 2K, with 256MB of ram and It gets by well with mc, not so well with others that need xp, sp2, .net etc.
Its just unfortunate that it Media cruiser appears to have been abandoned

Couldn't have said it better myself!! I started with winamp just streched to the limit of my desktop, then i found this vast information mountain...
Started with MediaCar, thought that it was the holly grail of car software.
Then tried Frodoplayer (just didn't like).
Back to MediaCar until I saw the "Holly Grail" being born over a 1 1/2 years ago.
In comes Road Runner, the only choice in my book...
Yes, the most:
Popular, Fairly easy setup for noobs, skins(I think?), customization...ect
Monthly updates with a lot of fixes ontop of new features, more customization to do bla bla...
And its still not even close to being done, will it ever??? NO...

I would like to vote for centrafuse, and Im surprised that more people have not voted for cf, ?
I have tryed road runner, and it just seems too unstable... epecially when using the Milkdrop 3d plugin for winamp, which looks like the dogs boll@ks. Maybee it was just a skin issue.
CENTRAFUSE!!!

Mobile Impact for me
I started on Road Runner but I just couldn't get it to run iGuidance correctly.
Mobile Impact is free, all-inclusive (I love that it doesn't have to launch winamp when it starts), fast, eaisly skinable (altho there aren't many skins available). The emulator support is awesome too.

I voted for centrafuse... roadrunner would be a close second to me... I think ther both great front ends... I like the way cf handles searches & large media collections over rr, like frodoplayer... & cf is a lot easier to setup...
rr on the other hand is highly customizable & does so much... there both great front ends but cf just does it for me I guess....

I had to vote for two FE's...
I voted for Media Engine due to the fact that it is easy to setup and easy to get working with the necessary stuff (GPS, Mp3, XM, DVD, etc) and the ability to set up external apps.
I also voted for RoadRunner. I love the fact that it many people are contributing to it (skins, apps, etc).
It does take a little patience to set up, and ample use of the "Search" function of this site.... but out of the FE's that I've tried.. RR is the most feature enhanced, slickest interface out there! (Many thanks to Guino for RR! and Liquid Smoke (For my primary skin))

I voted for RR and FP. At first I was hesitant to try RR, but I'm loving since I installed it. Plus you can't beat the skins for RR.
Also I really like NeoCar as well. Only if it was developed more, it has alot of potential.
