FAQ: Dimensions for Designing Your Own Custom Case
I think there should be some sort of sticky in the FAQ or maybe Fabrication forum with links to a bunch of PDF's or something that detail all the specifications and mounting holes of things such as:
3.5" Hard Drive
2.5" Hard Drive
itx/uATX/ATX Motherboards
M1/M2/Opus/DSATX PSU's
Case fans maybe
Just all sorts of stuff regarding building your own custom case. I found that I spent the longest time googling for 3-view drawing with detailed information about where the screw holes were located, maximum length/width/height, and that sort of thing.
Might be useful to others.

That's very nice of you 2k1Toaster; why don't you start the FAQ thread yourself, though?

How about some 3d cad files. That would help me out when using PRO/E. So far ive had to manually build these 3D parts.

Well I wanted some input first, and also If everybody contributes what they have, then we can put together a comprehensive FAQ all at once.

That would be cool too. Go ahead and upload them. I will use all of the info posted here in the final FAQ.
Post away!

As fas PDF's go. It would be kewl to create a PDF file with everything you needed to know as far as measurements. Like a full on Document. Although living Threads are kewl for added knowledge. Too bad that doesn't always happen.
edit: I will have to see what 3D Cad files i have or can create for people. Does anyone have preference on 3D file type?

That would be a huge PDF!
If you can do it, go for it. But first we must gather all this info into 1 spot. Then we can optimize it.

http://www.frontx.com/diy.html <--A nice web site showing how to custom layout connections for a PC. Should be the same for carputers. Also the main part of this website has some cool conections that may be usefull for carputers. I checked mp3car store and didn't see stuff like this so i hope its okay to post. Delete if not ok.
http://www.frontx.com/cutout_dimension.gif <-- this is a picture of demensions for there connectors but im sure its standard connectors they use.
