FB and switches

ok here is a loaded one for you and I hope you guys have any idea

I am getting ready to install a series of 4 switches for controlling addons I want to be able to turn the stuff on or off with both the FB and the switch ie I have it on with the FB but still want to be able to override it with the switch and vice versa is this doable?

Thanks,
yonu

Yes, use a relay, and have both the switch and FB hooked up in parallel with the relay to switch it on, so either or can. I can draw up a schematic if you need.

Now, this makes it so either the FB or the switch can turn the item ON. If you want to make it so the switch can override the FB to turn the item OFF, then you put them in series not parallel.

There are two (easy) possibilities:

Switch is on, FB can turn on or off.
Switch is off, FB cannot turn on

OR

FB is on, Switch can turn on or off.
FB is off, Switch cannot turn on

Using that method, the computer has to be on to turn stuff on. When the PC turns off, the device will turn off. I forgot there is a third solution:

Switch is on, FB cannot turn off.
Switch is off, FB can turn on.

FB is on, switch cannot turn off.
FB is off, swtich can turn on.

That may be more what you want, the ability to have either turn it on, but you can't turn it off unless both are off.

There is another possibility: Latched On/Off Output Using a Single Momentary Pulse. With this setup you would put both the momemtary switch and FB output in parallel both feeding the trigger (may want to diode both sides for safety), then a momentary pulse from either will toggle the state of the output.

that will work great now I just have to figure out a way to do it with less relays as I have about 6 switches to put in and that many relays will take up alot of space
