If I could only get this thing to work....

Just bought the fusion brain. Installed .net 2.0. Installed hardware drivers 2.0. Grabbed 2.2.1 for Vista and XP. Grabbed the latest skin designer.

The driver is Da Fusion Brain
Driver Date: 8/29/2007
Driver Version 1.0.0.0

In the skin designer, my brain is displayed when I try to create a new skin. When I click the 'start blinking' option. The program hangs. Ok, after restart, I just just select my brain.
When I try to add a analog input, I get an assertion failure when I click the add button from the input configuration dialog box.

When I try to run the Fusion Control Center, I get the following message:
"There are no Fusion Brain product connected to the computer that are setup in your skin file. ........#SETDEVICEINSTANCE#...."

From previous forum messages, I tried to specify the ID by configuring that setdeviceinstance file in the skin file. But that field does not exist in the file!

It there a tutorial project out there? Is there some way to test this card independent of the Fusion Center software?

Help anyone?

The skin designer is very finnicky. You must specify all parameters correctly. Unfortunately right now it is hard to know what each parameter is. The skin file needs a "#SETDEVICEINSTANCE#" filed in the Main section (between ">>MAIN" and the first "<<END" in the skin file.

You may need to add that field. Depending on what version of the skin file you are using and what version of the program you are using, you may just need to add it. Go to device manager, right click on the Fusion Brain, properties. Then Go to driver information, and choose "device instance" or "hardware ID" from the dropdown (depends on XP or Vista) and you should see something like "USB/vid_04d&pid_000c/gf324f23423". Copy that into the skin file as "#SETDEVICEINSTANCE#USB/vid_04d&pid_000c/gf324f23423|MainBrain".

Here is the main skin designer tutorial: http://www.fusioncontrolcentre.com/F...php?tutorial=3

If the drivers installed correctly, then it should be working just fine. If you are using XP then you can download the old version 1 (Non-Dynamic) version and it should work. This old version is not Vista compatible: http://www.fusioncontrolcentre.com/F...&submit+8.y=15

So you had some luck getting the power light to blink? I would have been very pleased to just get that to work.

Power lights? The power light (blue) should not blink...

The output lights should blink. Are you using XP or Vista?

And when you click the add brain, there is 1 that shows up correct? If so, then the Brain works.

Out of curiosity, do you have a little jumper near the bottom of board (by the LED)? There should be one included when you buy it. Without that jumper no output lights will light up.

Using the non-dynamic version, does the program give any indication that it is connected to a Brain? When I click the digital output buttons, should I see lights change? Will I need to rollback the hardware driver version to get the old software to work?

Ok.. I went back to try the very latest drivers. I opened opened up the new program. I entered the debug console ( click + ctrl + alt + shift + debug, open raw debug ). When I plug in a thermosister into on the analog ports, I get data readings displayed on all of the Analog Inputs visual. Seem to me that this card is busted.

Thoughts?

Nope that is normal. If you are seeing data, then it works!

If there is nothing connected to the other port, then it "floats". It is highly suggestive to noise when floating. This is ok because if there is nothing attached you wont be monitor it. As soon as you attach a sensor to the input, it no longer floats, and the noise will go away.

If you want, you can connect a jumper between the sense line and ground on the Brain, which will effectly get rid of that. But like I said, it doesnt matter because you wont be measuring it!

And to get the previous non-dynamic version to work, yes you need to install version 1 drivers too. But now that you know it works, we should really concentrate on getting the newer version setup.

Thanks for the help so far.

Ok.. After I am starting to have some progress. I have been able to verify, using the debug window, that the analog and digitial inputs work. I have not been able to very any of the outputs. What debug command should I use to turn on some of these outputs. I still have not been able to see any output lights on the board light up.

When connected to the device, the output zero checkbox is swapping states constantly by itself--checked, unchecked, checked..... If that is true, shouldn't I see the output zero light flickering like mad?

That debug window wasnt actually meant for public use, so I didnt make the digital output checkboxes actually show state.

What skin are you using? As long as the device instance is set correctly, then the buttons should get the outputs on and off.

Just make sure the name in the vid/pid section (like "MyBrain") is the same as the name in each of the DO areas.

I have been having trouble getting the skin create app to work for me. It asserts when trying to add an analog input. I will try again to get an output button working.

Just use Notepad. Open the skin file in notepad, and there is very little needed to be changed to test it.

Which output is port zero? How do I load a skin? Do I have to rename it to FusionFormDynamic.skin?
