Fusion Brain -- New Drivers causing a headache?

Well, I have had about 4 reports of the new drivers freezing ever other time which is unacceptable. I cannot reproduce this problem, and therefore cannot even begin to solve it.

As far as I know this did not happen with the previous drivers...

The new driver is faster and cross platform, but not worth the offset of instability to me.

If your drivers work let me know, if they dont let me know. Either way, which do you prefer. Like I said, the drivers havent ever frozen on me, so it is not a blanket problem.

Also, does anyone actually care about an OSX or Linux program? How many are using a non-Microsoft OS and want a Fusion Brain?

I tried two drivers - Da Fusion Brain, and Fusion Brain v3, and I got the intermittent device dropout with both. However, I don't know if I completely uninstalled the v3 drivers first, as those are the ones that went on first. If it helps, my motherboard is using a Sis 7001 USB controller.
I've got two other machines here I can try the Brain and drivers on, so if you need help replicating the problem and identifying solutions, I'll do my best to help out.

I use the new drivers and like you said, it freezes intermittently. I hadnt considered trying the older drivers. Im going to install them and see if I notice a difference in stabilty/performance.

You cannot install the older drivers and expect the software to work. The software is built around those drivers, so what version the software came with, is the version of drivers you need.

What system do you have said you are saying you are having problems? What USB chip?

Also, when is it not recognizing them? If you open the program do stuff, close it and reopen it, you say it doesnt work?

I just did it about 10 times to both MDX and the configurator and it worked like a charm, so I dont know whats going on.

If I plug in the brain, open the configurator and use the wizard, it will find the brain. If I then close the configurator and open MDX, there is no brain present (all inputs read zero and no outputs respond - it won't allow buttons to be pressed.) unplug-replug the Brain, restart MDX, and all is well again. Close MDX, reload it, and again, everything is set to zero and inactive.

It's that reliable. As soon as you use the brain once, it fails to be found again once the program is closed, and that's either program too (config or MDX)

Ill get you the details as soon as I can make it to my car. I work in automation (actually on site with a customer now) and I get the "it dont work right" response frequently.

Edit:
As for the drivers, I wasnt aware that your software was so closely tied to the version of the driver. In my experience, a software package will often work for a fairly wide range of dirver versions.

Driver Versions yes, but these are completely different drivers. One from Microsoft (WinUSB) and now this one is an Open Source Cross-Platform driver (LibUSB).

So different versions of WinUSB and LibUSB will work ok-ish with the software, but the program was structured around one or the other, not both.

I tried the drivers off the site and no workie. I downloaded libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.12.1 and installed it and it works fine. So far no problems. When it finds the FB it reports it as Fusion Brain #0 but it works ok. I am using the latest and greatest software. Also using TinyXP on an Intel 945GCLF2. I just put this computer together so will need some time to see if all is well.

Driver update. I am not sure if it is the driver or the plugin. But rrfusion no longer sees the FB. FCC sees it with no problems. So I am guessing it is the plugin. But the plugin did see it until I rebooted.

I do not make or maintain RRFusion. MDX has its own RR COM object that works with the new driver.

Also if it was working until you rebooted, then you did not completely uninstall the old drivers, which will cause problems later.

The giant warning in the update thread was not just for decoration.

I was not sure if you wanted to know about it or not. Or if rrfusion used the same drivers. But this was a new install on a new computer. So no old drivers to uninstall. I am going to an uninstall and then reinstall just to see what happens.

Sorry for the delay in posting back. I only encounter the freeze while using streetdeck. If I switch between different modules within SD, it will occasionally freeze (ie navigation, music, etc). Any attempt to close/reopen mdx is unsuccessful. I have to manually kill the application and unplug/plugin the brain before it works again. When I run it outside of SD, it will run indefinitely without problems. So on closer examination of the problem, I no longer think it is a driver issue.

I am running Windows XP Professional SP3
Via USB Controller r5

If you have any insight, it would be helpful; though I dont believe the problem is simply the brain since it only occurs in SD.

Well only thing I can think of off the top of my head is DirectX...

I think SD uses DX. MDX can use DX. Maybe they are conflicting?

If you run with basic gui mode, will it still freeze? Basic mode will draw everything in GDI+, and should not touch the DX core at all.
