The FB hardware seems like it really does have limitless potential. The systems that I am looking at are really quite simple. Combine accurate accelerometer and GPS data with a few sensors like RPM, temperature, etc and you have a very powerful tool for training and generally improving driver skill.
Right now the most likely candidate is a product called Traqmate. The thing that sets this aside from many of the tools is the software that comes with it. It lets you analyze your braking/acceleration/line to help you get the best track time possible. The things I don’t like about it is its quite limited to the number of sensors that can be hooked up and the software seems quite closed. The price tag doesn’t help, but it is actually quite reasonable.
I am looking to setup systems for 2 cars right now. If the FB software has tools like this, does anyone have screenshots of it? If not, is this something that others might be interested in? I am by no means a programmer, but I would not mind paying for developer time if someone thinks they can do it for a reasonable rate. Toaster, does this seem like something you might be interested in?

Well MDX isnt exactly setup to do start and stop result tracking all in one.
MDX can graph sensors in real time and log that information for display in Excel or something like that. Advanced calculations can be made on real time data and logged as well, but if you wanted to manipulate data over historical data, MDX cannot do that easily as of now.
I do developement work, and since I develop for the FB already (obviously) I know I can make what you want, but just to let you know up-front custom software is not cheap.
Hardware wise, it seems like a perfect application. If you want some custom software done, send us the details.
