Red face Detect camera signal?

I've seen a cupla questions asked about detecting when in reverse or when backup up camera is used but didn't see any answers.

I'm using a UMPC and am using the build in screen to show the image from the camera and I'd like to be able to click a button on the screen to switch to an embedded app that shows the image.

I'm not in the least able to do any electrical/electronic work so please use simple terms.

I notice that the brain is a card - since I don't have any slots on the UMPC does that eliminate using your product or is there a version in a black box?

Thanks!

The brain is a USB device.

I don't understand your other question - you can click a button on a touchscreen that switches to an embedded app without the brain...

Ok, I sorta knew that it was a usb device.

Wouldn't you rather have the screen switch automatically rather than have to press a button? I would.

There's no version in a black box, but you can find small black plastic enclosures that you can use. You would have to make the holes themselves. Due to the straight connectors coming straight up off the board and the depth the box will have to be, it will be kind of awkward plugging in the sensors and relays (deep hole).
Eventually I will look for some 90 degree pin headers that will work (I totally forgot I wanted to do this), so the sensors can plug in from the side, to a depth that is not too deep, like plugging in the other connectors would be, and get some of those enclosures (fry's or custom) to put mine in. This would require desoldering/soldering though, which by your first post I'm assuming you're not into, can't, or don't know how to yet. You could always do it from the top, but I think it will be prettier if I can plug in from the side, like a car alarm.

It would be nice, say if you don't want to use a AV autoswitching feature, and see the video say, framed within a skin. But at this moment, the ability of the brain's software to talk to other software is limited. But if your video software is running in the background and will do what you want it to do by first, getting focus, and second, recieving a keystroke, then there might be a way. Further development by Fusion's 'mad scientist' coder gets us closer to doing things like what you want every day.
I think I can see what you want, in my mind. And it would be pretty cool. Would be neat for home automation use as well.

EDIT: I have finally achieved the FLACid state...neat.

The software doesnt need to have the application in focus to send the keystroke, but you can do what you are wanting.

Wire the 12v reverse light through a voltage divider to scale to 5v, and send into an analogue input. Then setup a simple "if input is greater than 2.5 send keystroke blah to program blah2".

Probably a prettier way once I get this damned COM object working.

Very helpful reply - thanks!

I'd be willing to buy a black box version from you if the price wasn't too high.

I'm using a Hauppauge USB Live thingy that comes with software that I've got running in the background as you describe. Sounds like you totally "get" what I'm after. But it sounds like it won't be possible with the existing state of the software.

Well then, I'll join those anxiously awaiting your software efforts. The COM object sounds perfect.

Can you set hotkeys in this program? So press F10 and it comes to the front or something? If so then it will work with the current software.

As to "black box versions", we dont sell the actual black box. You can however get enclosures from radioshack and just use standard PC standoff screws and securement screws. The holes on the Brain are standard size for this reason.

Hotkeys: I'm working with a new front end (FreeIce) that is in development and right now the hotkeys work only with the media player. BUT I was thinking that I could write a small program that could accept a msg from you and then it could use api's to accomplish what you're talking about. Would that work?

I understand now about how to create the black box.

Thanks for your help.
