Finally received my Brain!

After two months, delayed orders, USPS's finest and Poland charging 22% import tax, I finally got my hand on a Brain and a load of sensors to try out! Im stupidly excited (more than I should be) at the possibilities this thing could provide. Now I just have to get to grips with the software: I'll chart any problems I find along the way. I've not been reading the forums lately, so Nick, Tim; consider this a Guinea Pig Guide to a Fusion Noob's Experiences...

The USPS... They're not the only ones "going postal", they drag you down with 'em!

Glad you got it! I dont know why USPS is being so slow lately. We have had quite a string of bad luck between USPS getting orders to people (even domestic US) coupled with an abnormal amount of Chinese Holidays screwing up and delaying our orders...

Hopefully this will stop happening!

Ok, so I've fiddled around a bit, found a power source (were there any plugs connected to the barrel sockets provided, or did the Polish post office chop them off?) and got the Brain lit up. I have an eerie blue glow to look at.

Next off was downloading the updated software, which was rather easy, including updating the Brain driver to v3 (use the driver folder, duh.)

Now I'm fiddling with the Kitty Ninja Wizard. Telling it that there's one Temp Sensor connected to one Brain, using the default template, the configurator shows a cheery blue demonstration of what the software should look like running (left) whereas actually running Fusion Control produces this (right):

I've also noticed that if I go back into the Wizard, it will tell me that I have no Brain connected and that Im not using the LibUSB driver; disconnecting and reconnecting the Brain cures this, but it's not an elegant solution.

And if I try to load the saved config again in the Configurator, I get this message:

"Could not bind all text instances to font instances in this config file."

So these are the first teething problems (aside from someone not knowing how to use apostrophes )

When you save your config file, you need the Content folder too. You can't save the xml and copy just that over, because the images are external in the Content folder. Save directly to the MDX directory.

I am saving directly to that directory, and the content folder is there too, so I don't know why Im getting a white screen with one grey cell.

Put the command line switch "-basicgui" on the program shortcut and see what happens (with a screenshot preferrably)

Last edited by 2k1Toaster; 10-09-2008 at 01:57 PM. Reason: typo, "basicgui" not "basegui" hence why it didnt work...

Refreshed DirectX just to be sure, added that command line, now Im just getting a completely blank screen when I run the Control Centre, even though the Configurator reloads the xml just fine.

Screenshot plz?

If doing something with DirectX changed how it works, then it sounds like a DirectX problem.

What did you download?

Downloaded the entire 9.0c package (80mb) from Microsoft and installed it, plus a restart (to let the MDX updater sort itself out) and now I just get this when I load the Uber MDX:

Im going through the config making sure all the paths match up, Ive tried saving to the Fusion folder in Program files as well as the MDX folder within that, but I still meet this big blank screen.

Can you change your regional settings to US instead of Poland and see if anything changes?

Also the .NET package needs language files for different ones. I only have it download the English files. Try to download the english .NET 3.5 redistributable.

That's given me something back:

And the NET packages are all in English, the regional settings were for the UK first, now they're at US.

Maybe a complete uninstall-reinstall would help, but as I have to be at work in 7 hours, Im off to bed. Thanks for the patience

Well I uninstalled MDX, deleted the folder, restarted, reinstalled, ran the Ninja again and I get the same results.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the Brain so that it is definately v3 (rather than updating the driver) has produced something - the grey squares that represent digits on the white screen are flickering and moving, so MDX is definately in communication with the Brain and taking readings - I just don't know what the readings are!
