EXTREMELY noob question

actually 2 of them.
first, is is it possible to have FB use buttons? not steering wheel buttons or what not but just a plain button and when its pressed, notify the computer. if so how?

and the next one..
same thing with LEDs. is there a way for the FB to tell the compy when an external led had been turned on, maybe like a radar detector for ex?

FB can read in anything with a voltage. So yes on the button and yes on the LED.

Use a light sensor for the LED detection, and analog or digital ins for the buttons.

digital = 1 or 0/ true or fase/5v or 0v
analogue = anything so anything between 5v and 0v

So all digital inputs can be used in an analogue input since both 5v and 0v are in the range of 0v to 5v.

But analogue inputs cannot be used as digital since 3.14v is not 0v or 5v.

So your led is either on or off. That means it can be used on digital.
**EDIT** This is asuming you are soldering directly to the LED pads. If you cant solder or dont want to open it up, then use a light sensor.

A button is pushed or not pushed, which means on or off, so can be used with digital too.

So since they can both be used with digital inputs, they can both be used on analogue inputs.

Our new Fusion Brain will not use any digital inputs since they are so limiting.

so as far as the led goes, i cant actually like splice the LED and then hook it into the board?

You could solder to the LED and run wires from the LED to the Brain, or you could just use a light sensor.

don't be sorry, I'm just not sure what you mean by "splice the LED"

ah my bad. just instead of actually having to use a sensor to detect when the led is on, could you just somehow splice the + and - of the led into the FB? lol i did a quick paint drawing

You should have a resistor in line with your LED or your burn them out faster. They don't have to be big, but it will increase the life greatly.

this is an led on something already, there is already a current limiting resistor.

yup, that'd work fine. + goes to the outer pin on the input, - goes to the middle

i knew about the resistor, but it was just a draw-out to give a better idea of what i was wanting.

sweet! would it be on the digital input?
