A device I can take apart to simulate steering wheel buttons

I'm trying to think of something cheap I can buy and take apart to hook up to my fusion brain to simulate steering wheel buttons so I can start programming the software. Then when I hook it up to my car I just need to change the values.

Anyone have any ideas? My car is about 90 miles way from where I live right now so testing on it is out of the question.

You could pick up several resistors with different values and make a mock-up switch situation.

But really, your logic will most likely be the same for all of them except the output, so you should be able to copy/paste it all in the xml. Why do extra work?

Working with the electronics is the most difficult of my carputer installation so this stuff comes slowly to me . I'm not really sure what you mean by taking a few resisters and making a mock up of them... Although that sounds like a great idea and is exactly what I want. A shopping list and short instructions would be great.

I have a diagram of my steering wheel controls if I could just rebuild them that would be even better. Linky to diagram.

Wow, how nice of them to give you the values and everything! Dark Blue and Yellow wires for the SWC... I wish I had something that detailed when I did mine.

(I am not an EE) You would need to pick up a resistor for each of those values and on one wire (yellow) attach them all end-to-end (called wiring in series) in order according the picture. The other wire (dark blue) you would then touch in between resistors according to their location on the diagram to simulate a button press. Does that make any sense?

Also, it looks like you may actually receive voltages instead of just resistance. (I just noticed the "HOT during yadda yadda" at top right)

This would probably be 12v in, but without measuring who knows. I could be totally wrong.

it might be easier to just buy a steering wheel off ebay?

Really all I want is just like 2 or 3 buttons I can use just to test with. I just want to get my code set up so all I have to do is pop in my values.

ise 1k resistors for both resistors, regular switches for SW1 and SW2.

press nothing, 2.5v. press SW1, 5v, press SW2, 0v

Thanks. Sorry for the simple question here, but how do I apply power to this? I'm going to be testing from my an ac outlet. So I'm assuming I'll need an ac adapter that goes to 12v and then just connect the 12v to the r2?

Vin goes to the inside pin on the FB (5v)
Vout goes to the outside pin on the FB (Vsense)
Gnd goes to the middle pin.

Do not connect this to 12v.

Haha, thank you for your patience, I forgot the brain has its own power. I will get everything to night and test it out. Hopefully others will be able to do this as well.

I built the circut and when I press button 2. It must go to 0 because the blue button on the brain turns off .

Also, I remember in version 2 of the software there was a debug mode that showed the values that the brain was seeing in real time. Is there a way to do that in the new version of the software?

Then you hooked it up wrong or used incorrect resistors.

Take a picture.

I got it figured out. I had one wire infront of the resister rather than behind it. Thanks!

If the blue light on the Brain goes out, that means you are shorting it out. Read BAD.

The light should never go out unless you unplug it. If the light goes out you are destroying your brain.

And you should be thankful we designed a little resiliency into the circuit.
