When you switch modes, its useful to know what mode its in. Its going to be especially useful if you want to enable auto gamma and disable the fade, or enable fade and disable auto gamma. Without it, the user will have no clue what mode GC is in.

Wouldn't it be obvious though? At least those 2 examples you gave would be pretty obvious IMHO... it it is dimming, then it is in dim mode. If it simply stays dark, then you're not.

Yeh. But I have to add it first
Haven't found that much great code on this. I hope I don't have to do a workaround (transparent for with transparent label). I want it to look like the monitor's on screen menu in a way.
