I had GPS troubles when I positioned the receiver near my screen or near my computer. They can get interfered with by the electrical noise of different devices. Where did you reposition the GPS receiver?

Its sitting on my rear Deck, next to my XM receiver and my BU-353.
The PC is mounted under the rear deck in the trunk.

I have the same setup and the GPS won't lock. Temporarily put the GPS on the roof, away from the PC or move it somewhere else in the car and see if that does the trick.
I have two options of where to put my GPS - on the dash or on the rear deck. On the deck, the PC interferes. On the dash, I can move the GPS way out to one side and it works okay. It works best on the roof, though. Locks instantly and never loses the signal.
I've thought about building a metal 'shelf' that I can mount way up at the top of the hatchback glass. That would shield it from underneath and give an open view to the sky. I don't like the XM and GPS lumps on the roof.

If you've moved it like that, you obviously have an extension USB cable, right?
The 20x cable is only 1 meter long, so its hard to move it around without an extension.
I'll try moving it to the other end of the rear deck. Its funny, because It worked great before I updated to the Oct 2008 patch, now it seems to be a let down.
I guess I can mount it to the top of the glass in the back - I don't want anything outside of my car either.
My buddy (who drives aggressive I will add) had his XM receiver cable that was mounted outside cut (he parked at a Metro station). I'm not sure if he ****ed someone off on the way, or it was just vandals, but I don't want to invite those issues, so no way I am mounting it outside.

I've used it on an extension cable before and I've also used it plugged into an unpowered hub and haven't had any problems other than the ones with location.
Maybe the update is causing the PC to operate in a way that aggravates the interference issue.
FYI - I also have a TomTom, which is practically brand new and had the same issue with it near the screen. However, if I got a lock on it and THEN put it near the screen, it would work fine.
Maybe your almanac went out of date and it wasn't able to download it easily? Was it a long time since you used it?

I used it on my trip from Baltimore up to Stowe, VT this past week. All the way there it worked flawlessly.
I updated in Stowe (I had wireless, so I figured why not). Ever since then its been pretty poor in terms of performance, but it did lock on several times and have my correct location, but many times while driving Garmin would lose signal and have to keep recalculating, then it would show me way off course of the road that I was actually on.
It just started behaving pretty odd.

Well, I drove to the gym from work, and had no signal for 20 minutes, then at a red light I got full signal.
When I left the Gym, I drove home and had no signal all the way, after I got home and parked, I had full signal - but I have no idea why its taking so long. I sat in the car for a couple min with Garmin loaded before I left the gym - hoping that being stationary would help, but it did not.
Not sure what's going on...

Now, mysteriously - Garmin is locking on in under 10 seconds.
I get full signal pretty darn quick now, and I didn't do anything.
Very strange!

I don't know what the hell is going on but Garmin Mobile PC won't load on any of my PCs. Vista and XP. Laptop and Desktop. No errors, just sits in the system tray loading nothing, sorta like it can't render the program :/
Floppy drive is disabled in BIOS. DVD Drive is disabled too just in case. Still fails
Edit: It has magically started to work now. Great software

Does Garmin Mobile PC have functionality like the new Garmin ecoRoute™ plugin for nüvi® 205-series and nüvi® 705-series?

Save Gas and Money
Now more than ever, we’re all looking for ways to conserve both money and fuel. Whether we’re taking fewer trips or carpooling with family and friends, saving resources is a top priority. It was that thinking that led to the creation of ecoRoute – our free software update for compatible nüvi products that allows users to find more fuel efficient routes when navigating and even track their fuel usage. With ecoRoute, you may be able to save gas and money by adopting smarter driving habits and finding more fuel-efficient routes.
Select Fuel-efficient Routes
With ecoRoute, users will have a “less fuel” option as a routing preference. When selected, nüvi will determine if more fuel efficient routes exist based upon road speed data and vehicle acceleration data for a given route.
Get Fuel and Mileage Reports
Through ecoRoute’s Fuel Report and Mileage Report, drivers can focus on their habits even when they’re not behind the wheel. Fuel Report tracks fuel usage over time, and Mileage Report monitors mileage and fuel usage on a per-trip basis. In addition, Mileage Report makes it easy for business travelers to keep track of distance traveled for company reimbursements. You'll have a detailed report for each trip and the miles driven. You can also customize your nüvi by entering your car’s fuel economy and the current price of gas.

No, it doesn't have this feature. Let's see if the feature becomes popular among Nüvi users. If it does, then perhaps Garmin will expand the range of products that include it, and we may even see it in GMPC.

Has anyone used the trip feature of GMPC? You know, the screen that shows your trip mileage, average speed, current speed and so forth?
If so, has anyone noticed that the odometer is inaccurate? While my instantaneous speed is right, the calculations that GMPC makes for distance are inaccurate when compared with my car's odometer.
That makes it look like my average speed is much, much higher than I actually achieve. For example, even if I never break 70 mph, it will show that my trip average is in the 80 mph range and my highest speeds are even higher - Even with stops!
Anyone seen this behavior?

Mine shows an average speed of 200 kmh, which is I think around 120 mph. I suspect when I sit parked somewhere, especially in a bad reception area, my GPS location may be all over the place, and that may contribute to this inaccuracy.

Does GMPC save your traveled route? Like to a CSV or KML or something similar for import into Google Earth? I didn't see anything on their site about it, just that you can store 50 pre-planned routes.

No one has this, or no one has looked for this functionality? I have a TomTom One that I use to store my track which I can import into Google Earth, or other GIS software. Moving to a CarPC, I would like to eliminate a stand-alone GPS unit, so I need a way to store my track.
