Any ideas how I can set the port number in GMPC to 5.

Cheers

I've the same issue. The physical port should not be used by any application except XPort so that it can properly split the signals to other virtual ports.

Have you found a solution to make GMPC not so "smart" to autodetect ports?

Got this installed today with the City Navigator 2010.10 maps. Was previously using Sygic. Does anyone have any comments about the POI's with these maps? Are they better than the TeleAtlas that Sygic uses?

The only thing I have seen to do this is IndieVolume. I haven't tried it yet but I'll probably need it myself as my project nears completion.

Wow thanks for the link. I'll try it in a couple days after my last exam. I hope it works as it will be easier of the solution I was thinking of - using two different sound cards and manually muting :P

Windows Vista and 7 has a built-in Voume Mixer with per application volume control.
Not as advanced as IndeVolume though, becuase IndieVolume can add "exclusive" applications. When an application marked as "exclusive" plays a sound, IndieVolume automatically mutes all other applications.

Btw. this link is dead at the moment: http://www.indievolume.com

The link works fine for me? http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/indievolume.com

Anyway I installed v3 in my car (XP Pro SP3 nlite'd) and when Garmin speaks it mutes Winamp, though it seems to cut out after the first word. I only got to play around with it for a few minutes, tomorrow I'll try the new version and see if it works any better. But at least it's getting somewhere.

Works fine for me now too. But at the time I made the post it didn't work. Tried several times both Firefox and IE8, but no luck then.

Have you tried out the program? Mine still cuts out after the first word but I haven't tried the latest version yet.

I just tried the latest version in WinXP Pro SP3 with Riderunner using Winamp and GMPC. When Garmin speaks it does mute the sound but it only speaks for ~1sec then gets cut off and there is no sound until the music is unmuted. I tried running just Winamp and GMPC, does the same thing. Tried foobar2000, and WMP (playing a video as well). GMPC always gets cut off. Increasing/decreasing the delay time in IndieVolume didn't help either...

If it is able to be made to work I would buy it but it doesn't seem likely unless they fix it? Apparently it was a problem with nRoute in one of the old releases:

"IndieVolume 2.1.65.131
Date: June 28, 2007 Size: 1.35 MB
Changes since previous version:
- fixed bug IndieVolume was truncating sounds in Garmin nRoute"

Looking at this page they do mention that they do guarantee a 2 business day resolution if you have any problems. I'm thinking about buying it and seeing if they can fix it, does that sound like a good idea?

Unless someone else can give it a go and see if it does the same thing to them.

I've tried indievolume(IV) with a different result. I got this to work running RR, when gmpc speaks it mute winamp, but at times IV give me an error and have to click continue before it works again. I email IV manufacture approx 1 weeks ago with error and a question about the ability to lower winamp volume instead of muting but have not heard from them yet. Also, for my setup when GMPC speaks i hear the full direction instruction. If they fix this error I'll buy the software.

What do you mean by "indievolume(IV)" ? The latest one I can see on their site is IndieVolume 3.4.89.158. Also what version of Garmin are you running? I have version 5.00.60 which is the latest from the Garmin site as well. Oh and are you on XP?

I also emailed IndieVolume about my problem, and although it's only been a few days I haven't got a response either.Kinda sucks because it seems like the only software solution I can find

Okay I'll be starting with a fresh install of Windows now that I completely FUBAR'ed my system, so hopefully can get IndieVolume to work.

Will update on this later during the week

Well, I finally got to try Indievolume. I don't know if it's my USB sound card or what but when it's enabled, the sound from GMPC stutters very bad. I didn't get as far as trying it with some music in the background; it was so bad that that was a deal-breaker right there.

Damn. And I had such high hopes for it.
