This motherboard came with an IDE cable like this:
http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/id...Cable80-c.html
(it has blue, gray black and connectors)
Can I use the old IDE cable I have???
The 2.5 HDD Adapter won't fit in this new IDE Cable (the connector of the new cable has 1 pin less, in the middle, that is blocking)
Thanks

just look around you can find a cable that doesn't have that pin blocked or break the pin off the adapter, i've done that also.
I just got back from the store and bought a 18" round to replace the flat one I had so I know they are available.

If you're not up to breaking the pin off. Simply bending it out of the way will work equally well. I've done that before. But the nice round cables don't cost much.
Here is a round one (12") from TigerDirect for $4 + $7.50 shipping

OK, I will see if I have one or buy that cable.
But is there a problem using the old IDE cable?
I am asking because I just did it and the Motherboard is not booting anymore. It was fine before.
Green light in the motherboard is lit, CPU fan is on, but monitor doesn't show anything... It doesn't have a speaker so no beeps.
I powered all off, removed the IDE cable, start but no luck...
Anything I should try now? I just removed all the cables, and took the bios battery out...
Please help...

check the position of your bios reset jumper. if its on pins 1-2 power down, move it to 2-3 and reboot. You'll get into the maintenence section of the bios. Check the error log for any available info.. then save the default bios setting. Power down, and move the pin back to 1-2. It should work then. This board is a little pushy when it comes to having every scenario correct to make it boot. I went thru a week of tryin to figure out various things that seemed to be wrong with it.

Hi, i tried with jumper in 2-3 position, turn on but still no video. Light on, CPU Fan on, ... I also tried without the jumper.
Extra testing:
I plugged my USB GPS and it turned on (so there are power in the usb port), I plugged a network cable and its lights blinked, so I dont understand what is going on...
I was thinking if that is a problem with my LCD monitor (boot resolution, maybe), so I changed to a 17" CRT monitor, but no luck.
I connected a led in the Power On led. It is lit when the board is on. I removed the DIMM, turn on and the power led is not continuously on, it blinks, probably the error code.
Sad.

That LED blinking should definitely be the error code. Look it up in the documentation. I don't remember if that document actually came with the board or not so you might have to download it from this page at intel.
I doubt that it was the IDE cable that caused it. Older cables should work just fine (although they might not get you the full ATA133 throughput). If there was a problem with the IDE then you should still see the logo/post screens and might even get a "Non System Disk" error.
I was getting similar symptoms from my VIA800 before I bought this board. All lights on, fans spinning, nothing else. I tried resetting the BIOS as per the instructions in the manual with no results at all. Eventually I took the BIOS battery out, and left the board unplugged for about 4-5 days. I tried it again the next week, just for kicks, didn't expect it to do anything. And it booted up as if nothing was ever wrong.
That may not be very helpful to you, but take it for what its worth.

It is back alive!!! I changed the DIMM and it worked!!!
Maybe I screwed the previous DIMM with some static or whatever.
I'm happy again.
Well, let's continue the tests.
Thanks

haha nice good on you glad to see it runs again
I used DDR2667 Corsair Ram 1GB managed to get it cheap too $47NZ(35USD)
Yeah all IDE cables are fine, I'm using one from my old motherboard, might even goto a single IDE cable and run a USB external CD-rom, just due to the way I'm mounting mine
I've had a quick search for the SIS S-video chip, I'm not sure if mine is on there, if it is, I'll be willing to solder a 7 pin S-video cable onto it, just to see if it shows up
Because it'd be nice to have an S-video to component cable then run a 14" flipdown component monitor in the back for passengers, while I keep my 7" touchscreen to myself up front

I have this board, used it to build a NES PC.
Good luck with the s-video, your going to need it!!! I followed the traces on the board, and there are a lot of nessicary resistors and/or capasitors that arn't there.
oh, and go easy on the smilies!

Use HD via USB?
Hi,
I see that this board supports booting via USB.
I was wondering about using the HDD via USB, instead of using the IDE cable, just because its easier to remove (for instance, when need to take it out of the car to manage the files, add more music, etc..).
I dont know what is the performance of a HDD running on USB 2.0 x IDE.
Thanks

is that normal to have such a choppy bios boot-strap?
