VoomPC Case + Carnetix P1900

Hi Guys,

My power supply just bit the dust (warm arc welded the plastic module together and had to rip it apart to get it disconnected).

I'm looking at a VoomPC case and Cartnetix P1900. VoomPC case was designed for the M2 but does anyone use it with the above power supply?

Any modifications needed for the power supply to fit?

I do not have either the VoomPC case or the Carnetix PSU, so someone else may be able to better answer your questions, but I'll take a stab at it.

As far as compatibility, these two will work together. As far as fitting in the case, I don't see that as probable. The Carnetix p1900 is a board contained in a case that is the size of a normal AC PSU. It's in the case because it has a fan too cool the PSU. Granted, I don't know if the fan needs to be there or not, but I'm assuming it's there for a reason.

Theoretically, you could remove the board from the casing and try it out, but still, the dimensions of the board are much different from that of the M2-ATX. The M2 is long and skinny while the Carnetix is square-shaped. I know the VoomPC case has limited space available, so, even if you removed the board from the carnetix, you may still be in trouble when trying to mount it.

But, keep in mind, you don't necessarily have to keep everything in one small area. In my case, my Opus 250 didn't fit in my case or even where I am storing my PC, so I lengthened the wires and stored it in my center console with my PC under my passenger seat. So, don't be afraid to get creative.

That's what I'm thinking, I really like the level of monitoring for the battery and PSU. I'm a programmer so there might be some use of using that monitoring tool and creating a plugin for Centrafuse to display and hook up to it's APCI control. (indicate battery drained etc).

So I'm probably looking at making a custom enclosure for the power supply and piggy backing to the case (which will be in the glove compartment.

Creative?

I've got my HD 3.5" in the lower half of my double DIN, near the back the DVD-ROM in front of it and my motorized single DIN LCD above it. The cage weights close to 12lbs and is a pain in the butt... I run a 3 foot IDE cable to the glove.

I'm looking at going the 2.5" route and having that in-case removing the HD from the cage, I might just rig the power supply back there. And leaving the DVD were it is and polising up the front face.

I've got my GPS mouse in the centre console and looking at putting 1-2 USB ports in the console for balancing out my power controls which are also in the center console.

No problem being creative there. My previous power supply blew because I had it bare mounted to the back of my glove door (plastic backing) and it had way too much flex and shotty mounting.
