I use a core 2 duo with dg965ss board. My boot time is 20sec if that. my only problem is that when I have the sb external hooked up, it takes 45sec to 1 minute to boot. It because of the driver issue with the sound blaster. Thats why im looking for an on-board audio that is good.

I think that has more to do with the motherboard and its BIOS, rather than a Core 2 Duo.

Desktop processors do require a bit more power, but considering their cost ratio to the mobile processors....there's also the idea of purchasing a PSU that will provide enough power either way...
Here's a comparison, taken from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPU_pow...n#Intel_Core_2
Mobile:T5600 1.83 GHz 34 W 2MB (FSB 667) (65nm Merom)
Desktop: E6300 1.86 GHz 65 W 2MB (FSB 1066)
I'm sure the pB is the lead free version...
Comparing the two via their pages, i find that the differences are the following:
Extreme has that the regular doesn't:
1 * Mini PCI Express x1 Slot
1 * IrDA (CIR) (Need to purchase optional IR Receiver and Remote Control)
The two pages for reference:

I should be getting this board in on Tuesday. Bought it from here: http://www.mini-box.com/Intel-DG45FC...TX-Motherboard
I have tried to do some research on the audio chip, but since it's so new there's not much info out there on it.
The spec sheet for that chip says 10 channel audio, but all specs say 8.
Not sure which to believe.
I bought it SPECIFICALLY because the word is that that chip is Intel's way of saying we believe computer audio can be great, this is our attempt at it...
but who knows. I just need it to do bit-perfect at a minumum...hopefully it will.

cool, thanks
i actually like that intel board - build seems solid and well finished, but the socket sucks a bit and there's too few slots for extra cards
