Hello.

This is a strange problem as most of mine are because they are never simple...

Anyways, just went out for a short drive, and filled up with gas. When the PC went into standby, all was fine. When it came out of standby, no video. The music was still playing, but I got a "No Video Detected" flash on my screen. The touchscreen still worked because I could guesstimate where the buttons for volume were and they worked. The screen itself is ok, because 1) it flashed the "No video" message clearly, and 2) because while rebooting, it can see fine until the welcome screen.

When you reboot, it does the BIOS thing, and the XP logo with the horizontal loading bars comes up as normal and look fine. Then after the XP logo where it is supposed to turn blue and say welcome (same place where the screen resolution is changed to your settings), the monitor shuts off.

Now when this happened before, I plugged in a CRT and adjusted my resolution because it was wacky. Well now the CRT does nothing. It too loses a video signal at the same spot.

So I boot into Safe Mode, and everything can be shown. The video display is at 640x480 like it usually is and 4-bit colour which looks really awefull, but it displays. I read on another forum I found while googling that to fix this, you uninstall the video drivers from the Device Manager tab of System Properties from Safe Mode, and then reboot and the computer will reinstall the video drivers and all will be well.

Well I unistalled, booted into regular XP, and the resolution was still 640x480 with 4-bit colour. Then it automatically detected the video adapter, and automatically installed it with a "your new hardware is ready to use". So I reboot into normal, and like clockwork, at the start of welcome screen it goes away.

This is sort of annoying because I am not a fan of having only 16 colours (not 16bit, but 16 colours total)...

So, what is this?!

I figure I have narrowed it down to being the video driver at fault, but not sure what to do to fix it because as soon as I get to regular mode, it automatically installs the old drivers again and the problem persists.

I think my next course of action would be to download the drivers fresh and see if I cant uninstall in Safe mode, reboot into safe mode, install video drivers, and back to normal, but perhaps some XP gurus out there can tell we what is going on.

I have a VIA EPIA-CN13000G 1.3GHz VIA C7 running Tiny XP Beast.

I can run fine on the default driver. Can do everything but 3D.

If I install the UniChrome driver it goes blank right as it enters Windows.
After that I get no signal right after I boot up and it stays like that until I clear CMOS and reboot.

I was running fine for 4 days then this afternoon I started up and bam right back to the same problem. What TOTALLY SUCKS is I had all my stuff put back together.

I might try to reflash the bios and see if that helps. I'm also wondering in the Sabrent SBT-TVFM / FM Radio / TV Tuner PCI Capture Card I had installed had any effects on it? I had it in the board, but I never could get the card to work. It did work on my home desktop.

What board are you using? Hope we can figure this one out.

I have the Commell LV-671 and it is the Intel 855GME video chip onboard. If this problem spans boards and chips, perhaps it is an XP issue. Perhaps the driver just got corrupted or something. I dont know, but having a 4bit screen sucks.

And to add to this little gem, no video drivers = no standby and no hibernate. So it has to shut off everytime, and me being a delivery person, that is not going to happen. Pain in the ***.

Oh well... maybe someone will have a fix, and soon!

Ok well I tried reinstalling the drivers and the only ones I could find were the *.exe's so it was an install wizard, not the actual *.inf files. If anyone has the *.inf's or any advice that would be good.

This probably only happened because I picked on linux and mac the other day... Must have had the anti-Microsoft fairies visit my PC.

This is a known issue with the iBase boards. I ran into the EXACT same problem on my MB899. Thought my HDD failed, I ended up having to go into Safe mode and uninstalling the video drivers. Reboot and reinstall the video drivers.

I'll see if I can upload the drivers...if they are the same for the two boards that is...

Known issue? Well that sucks...

You have a link for more info on this, or a general idea of why? At this point I am more concerned about fixing it then preventing it again, but it would be good to know.

And I think as long as the video chip is the same on the boards they should be compatable drivers. Thanks Red.

System Restore is my new best friend.

I was able to decompress the restore file from when I first put the PC in, extracted the video driver, copied to a flash drive, brought inside and put on a floppy. Then booted into DOS thanks to a Windows 98 Boot Floppy, and delted the old drivers, and manually replaced the new ones.

It works! I have 32bit colour again!

Pain in the *** though. Now I have to put the PC back in the car in 10 minutes before I have to leave for work. I still dont know what caused this, but I sure hope it doesnt happen again!

Congrats on getting it working! Do you have a link to the driver you installed? Are they similar to the Unichrome driver? I spent the day relocating my batt and installing speakers. Man it's hot here.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the S3 Unichrome chip. The S3 series is made by Via. I am using the Intel 855GE chip which is more powerful and greater 3D processing. And the 845/855 series use the same driver but that is it.

And I dont have a link for the driver because I didnt download it. I did download a bunch of the drivers from both Commell's site and Intel's site, and both were executable files that run a setup. Really worthless.

So I had to extract the files (about 12 of them) from a system restore package. And since you cant overwrite those files when in Windows without it throwing a hissy fit, I had to do it pre-windows so in the DOS shell.

I've isolated it down to the Unichrome driver. When I install that it causes the problem.

This thread was never about the Unichrome driver? the 899 doesn't use the Unichrome either...

I have had this exact same problem for several months now on the MB899 motherboard. I can't count the number of times I went into VGA Mode, uninstalled drivers, and reinstalled. But, I did find a way to correct the no video display without a driver reinstall, though it does not really explain why the video dropping happens.

The Intel graphics chipset for 945 has a built-in set of hot keys for display switching and screen rotation. If you plug in your VGA monitor and have no video, use the combination of [CTRL] + [ALT] + F1 to force the graphics to switch to the VGA port. If you use the RCA output for video, use the same combination, except press F2.

Like I said, this doesn't explain why the video drops, but hopefully it will save everyone a lot of time like it did me. It does say in the MB899 manual that if you plug in a VGA monitor while the machine is running you must use the hotkeys to bring video up on the display.

If anyone finds a concrete explanation for this and how to permanently remedy it, please let me know.

Ok, I have somewhat of a similar problem. I can get to the windows splash screen and then it goes black. I disabled my video drivers cuz I was having some problems and I also disabled my network drivers from some bt problems I was having. I tried booting into safe mode and then it hung up, so I rebooted and now I can't even boot into safe mode. So I disable the ide controllers in my bios so I can boot from a cd and tried booting my windows xp disk to do a repair. It loads thru all the or most of the drivers then I get a blue screen. Something to the effect that it can't continue do to computer may have a virus or something and could damage the computer ??? I'm at a lost ?? Any suggestions ??

I know that everything loads after the splash screen, cuz I can get RR to start by touching the screen where the icon is. I just can't see anything ?? I thought that I could go thru the network connector, but like a tard I disabled it .. So what are my options ?

same problem using an epia nano itx NX1500. I install the video drivers, but when I suposed to see the blue screen "Welcome" on wondows xp I get no signal on my 7" touch screen.

how can i resolve that ?
