Angry Car Noise In Speakers

I have a ticking noise in my car audio system that wont seem to go away.

It is a ticking noise that only ocurs when the car is started and running.

I've tried to solve it by getting a 40amp car nois isolator and connecting it directly to the battery as shown in the instructions and then running the output +12V to my amplifier, this did not solve the problem.

I then discovered that it sounded like the electric fuel pump ticking away, so I purchased another noise isolator and attached it first to the head unit connections, then seperatly to the fuel pump. This eliminated the fuel pump ticking noise when the car is not running (but the fuel pump is runnig) but not the ticking noise when the engine is running.

My +12V runns down one side of the car to the amp and the RCA cables on the other side of the car, many have suggested this might be the cause, but it can't be as it's arranged correctly.

Has anyone encountered these sorts of problem, and if so how do you solve it.

My car is old but no reason why I shouldn't be able to isolate the noise.

Thanks again

Odin

How old are your spark plug wires?

Fuel pumps shouldn't "tick". If it does, then it sounds like you'll be needing a new pump pretty soon.

Sorry, should have been more clear. Modern fuel injection style pump shouldn't tick. Low pressure carb pumps may often make a ticking sound.
