5v - 12v

I have a TRUST 4port 2.0 USB hub, which has a green light on

i need to give it some power, but whats the best way to get a 12v - 5v power thingy, to come on only at time the computer is on

im using a laptop in a car.

i just dont want to hook up 5v all the time (even when the cars off)

Are you sure you need a powered hub? If not, some computers don't power the USB line when turned off. You may not need a power supply for your hub. Some computers, though, do power the USB hub even when off or in standby. Depends on your model.

its a nx9010 laptop base

i had a flash drive in earlier, laptop off but the light cum on the pen drive once plugged in to the usb socket

No, what you need is a 2A POSITIVE VOLTAGE REGULATOR, L78s05cv.

They keep 4.95V even if voltage in is fluctuating. I am using them myself to power my USB hubs in the car.

An advise, use some simple heat sink to cool then, for example a chipset cooler from an old motherboard.

im interested in this as well. Might you have any pics of how these are setup with your system?
