Intel D201GLY Little Valley Feedback?

For those of you running the Intel D201GLY Little Valley motherboard, what are your thoughts so far?

What conditions have you run it in? Temperatures? Humidities? Vibrations?

How long have you been running it?

Any issues to speak of?

How reliable is it in your oponion?

I value any feedback on this board.

Not a personal experience, but the guy at a local shop indicated they had several get returned for a no POST condition.

I'm pleased with mine. I'll probably be buying another one for my truck. I've had it for a few months, mounted in my dash. So far I have had one problem and I had to reset the BIOS, right afterwards my monitor went out. I'm using the onboard video, not sure if the two are related or not.

Lots of info about the board in that thread, but very little in regards to the questions I've asked here specifically.

I'm looking for reliability issues right now.

My systems been goin good now for the couple months i've had it installed. Its been thru a pretty hot trunk so far (on a humid 95 degree day) with no problems. I dont think i've had one odd hardware related crash since its been installed. The only problem i had with it initially was due to high-density ram. It doesnt like it and its hard to detect that the RAM is the culprit at times. Other than that its been the best of the 6 motherboards used in my setups. VERY fast for a 1.3 board. It runs all the same software/skin packages that my amd 2800 ran without a hiccup. Any no post scenarios i've had have been attributed to the bios reset jumper. Once its changed to reset the bios the manual says it will act in a way it doesnt (i think it says bios will be read from floppy but it never read anything). A few mins with no power supplied fixed all post related issues.

Sorry to ask such a simple question, but how do you know if you have high density RAM? I have a couple of 1GB sticks of DDR2 533 SDRAM sitting around and one of the reasons I wanted this board was to make use of them. Is that considered "High density"?

I happen to have one that does not let the keyboard or mouse work. At least when i first installed it.

I did get the keyboard to work today though, so not sure what's going on.

Hi density RAM's memory modules are on a single side of the stick, where as low density has them on both sides.

I've got one mounted inside a 8" subwoofer box (no subwoofer of course, just for use as a box). Air circulation is from a system fan and the speaker grill.

This thing is somewhat tempermental. I use a M2-ATX power supply. I also have a manual switch hooked up in parallel to the on/off jumper for the motherboard. Here is what's a minor, but somwhat dissapointing issue

-Car is on and running with carPC fully running. I turn off the car all the way off, triggering the M2-ATX to send blip the on/off jumper. This sends the computer to Hibernate mode (as set by the OS). Now, if I turn the car back on while it's going into Hibernate mode, I should be able to use my manual switch to turn the carPC back on once it's fully in Hibernate mode.

However, half the time it doesn't. When I watch the board, it will sense the "on" signal, the CPU fan rotates once or so and stops. I have to cut power to the M2-ATX or wait the preset 45secs for power to be cut, then restart the comptuer. The little valley will report "CPU overheat error sensed..check settings" or some similar message, then starts up fine. Obviously it's not overheated since I was testing for a few minutes only and all fans were working.

BIOS is updated too. This exact same scenario played back on my previous old Compaq Presario Celeron 766 results in no restart issues.

Another issue I've noticed is that my GPS reciever takes noticably longer to get back it's location. Don't understand why.

All in all, it's pretty fast and cheap. Once you get use to the little quirks, it's a good deal for $70. I would buy again.

The Good:

I am VERY pleased with this board. Yeah I am still tweaking it in the car, mostly because of other new stuff, but wow what a difference in speed and capability vs. the old tried and true MII 10000. I could never run VIS now I can with only 38%-45% CPU usage (G-Force vis).

Flash is now an option, just running Road Runner it sits at a nice 20% Usage. The screens are almost instant, much more responsive. The devices seem to be more responsive as well, much faster - once the system is up and running (boot up time is slightly slower).

Power usage is extremely low.

The Bad:

The other side of things, some USB devices are a handful getting them to boot and hold drivers properly. I called Opus on this perhaps an over usage of the 5v rail, but Opus said "no way" They too are very impressed by the Little Valley board.

The drive home, all the devices held so perhaps its fixed

Bios is very simplistic, need more options. I did not find a setting for LCD/CRT in the bios for example, perhaps there is one but did not see one on Intel's website from the bios glossary.

The 800x480 capability is there, however you can not "tweak the width or height" Therefore I am running into issues where the desktop/Road Runner etc. is too wide on the 7" lilli. All I am left with right now is the settings on the monitor itself which is maxed out so it still needs to shrink, there should be settings for the SIS on board graphics for the simple things like width and height of the desktop. There maybe one, but I have yet to find it.

S3 or lack there of, well its not a big issue for me as I always turn my computer off.

USB Headers, will get back to you on this one, pluged a USB 2.0 Engenius Wifi adapter into it and only read it as a 1.0 device and would not work at all. The USB's on the back are reading as 2.0 and the Engenius worked "sort of fine" there. I installed a 4 port USB PCI card until I see what is up with the headers, I have ordered replacement header connectors to make sure its not that. It could also be a Bios setting, if it is they should set it up for 2.0 as default.

Getting cold here nights are -3 or so C. The real test will be in 2-3 months where its -30. So far no issues on temps.

I can not comment on the sound as I use an Audigy 2 NX.

For 70 bucks, incredibly pleased, I will never spend 3x the cost just for an EPIA VIA mobo again, there is no reason for it. The issues are very minor, there is always something that needs to be tweaked anyway. This board is probably the best thing I have ever purchased as far as price/performance for a car computer.

Lets hope one day someone makes a VGA LCD monitor with the same price/performance quality.

I'm definitely thinking about getting one of these boards, although now that there is apparently a SATA version, I think I will wait for reviews on that, so I can use a drive I have laying around.

Hey what kind of boot times are you guys experiencing?? Anything better than what the Via boards would run?

Edit: I looked around a little more and I see that people are resuming from hibernate in about 30 seconds or less! Thats not too bad at all.

Hey, how is your Audigy 2 NX doing during hibernation with this board? Is it coming out of hibernation fine without mute problems? What front end are you using?
