hardwire radar detector help

so i have a radar and the power plug for it looks like your typical phone cord, but it just plugs into the cigg lighter, how can i hardwire that into my car? which needs to be ground and which needs 12v?

The "ring" connector is negative, and the tip is positive. You can get a cig lighter socket from radioshack and wire that into the car.

yes, just tap into the cig lighter wires + and - and your hard wired.

The reason I did not advise yout to splice the wires is because alot of times the phone plug carries more than just power. In my case/example, I own a Beltronics RX65. This radar detector uses a RJ-11 connector for its power. However, the cable going to the cig lighter also carries lines to light a power LED, an alert LED, and a mute switch. So, tapping into this connection would not be good, since I would lose my other functions. However, if all the connection is carrying is power, that's ok

Ditto. My pig sniffer is the same. They do sell a hardwiring kit for some radars. I would go that route.
