help me? using my kenwood HU, laptop and 8" LCD screen w/o amplifier

alright this might sound crazy but I have a 2001 Honda Prelude. I can remove my kenwood headunit and replace it with an 8" LCD screen. I will run a VGA extension cable down under my seat where my laptop will be.

then from the laptop I want to run a 3.5mm cable to the auxiliary on my head unit (possibly going into RCA if there is one)

the head unit will be sitting inside the glove box (not sure if thats the best place for it). but by doing this, I will eliminate having to run an amp in my car. I will still have a head unit available at all times.

i'm perfectly satisfied with the way my infinity 6x9 and my polk audio 6.5 speakers sound with the kenwood. I'm not a heavy bass type of guy so I dont need all that extra power. I would say I listen to more country and rock than anything else.

am I on the right track? is there anyway of taking a 3.5mm audio cable and plugging it into some RCAs on the back of the head unit? or do I have to go through the aux 3.5mm jack as well?

is there any other clean way of doing this?

Thanks

Your on the right track, just make sure your headunit has an Aux input.

PS I presume you want to control voluem from the PC? If so you will loose some quality, but hopefully you won't notice.

when you say aux input you mean the 3.5mm jack that's located on the face plate of the head unit right? can aux input be located elsewhere besides the faceplate?

yeah the quality will be hardly noticeable well to me at least. the reason why i say this is because I have my iPod plugged into the front aux and it sounds fine to me. it sounds like how my CDs sound. so I'm guessing if I run a 3.5mm audio cable from my laptop to the head unit it should sound equivalent the iPod.

Some headunits also have an AUX input on the rear, either in the form of a 3.5mm headphone jack or in the form of RCA connectors.
