Thats strange, what SSD are you using? Maybe there is a temperature sensor inside your drive which is electronically preventing it from operating (which you can hack)?
When you say "it wont even show the bios" I am guessing you means your system wont even get to the point of trying to POST? That sounds to be a motherboard problem, not the drive.

how bout putting some heated seat elements under the case and attach it to a timer. set it to initiate 20 mins before that morning commute, and should be good to go.
otherwise, for those of you who operate in below freezing temps on a regular basis, the thumbdrive boot option sounds like the best bet.

I have a jetway nf3 board. It works 100% in the cold down to 8F, but the HDD won't.
I just figured you people would by SSD's. That is what I will do eventually. My current drive died this winter.

I would, but I don't see the list. Clicking on the link in your sig brought me to the thread, so I posted it. Never saw the actual list.
J754GT3-PTD is the model.

so has anyone ever come up with a good way to fix this without having to rebuild what they already have? Im just starting my build but don't have the HDD yet. so I was reading all the threads I could find about booting in the cold and seems like nothing but a bunch of ides being tossed around. But I think a ssd would be best right? and have a hdd that you can take in and out via usb in the winter.

Depends on what you think "this" is. Some are certain the issue is the HD, which I suspect is more common. Other think the MB or a different component is the issue. This is certainly possible.

How cold does it get in Ohio?
eBay sometimes has good deals on automotive grade drives, that would solve your problems in the cold. No one really seems to see the value in these drives (because you can get more Gb/$ elsewhere), so the winning bid is usually fairly low. This isnt my listing, but its a good deal if you can get it for under $150:

I also have a Seagate EE25 listed in the mp3car classifieds...but no one seems to be interested in it =(

Yeah, I would have preferred SATA but for the price I said why not, it's cheap for an automotive HDD.
