Ipod or Zen as HD?

I want to have an Ipod or Zen as my primary storage for mp3's and video files. Will windows be able to read directly off them as if they were a hard drive and will the transfer rate be fast enough to play mp3's and video files? I know the firewire connectivity will probably be fast enough, but what about the USB?

I dont know about if windows can read and write to them, but for the link cables, firewire, as well as USB2.0 would be fast enough for mp3s and video.

USB1.1 would be fast enough for Mp3s, but i dont know about movies.

Are you sure you can use either of these? I thought they need proprietary software to access the drives. You might need one of the Archos mp3 players. When attached they show up as a drive in Windows Explorer.

As does an ipod.
You can use it as a removable HD...

Some people have trouble finding the actual music files. Make sure hidden files/folders are turned off...
go to your ipod in my computer then iPod_Control>Music and there will be 20 folders where all your music is. you can just do a search from IPOD>iPod_Control>Music for *.* and make play lists or whatever... and you wont have to make multiple copies of songs...

For ipods and windows you need special software to read and write on the mac drive.

http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/screens.php

This software called anapod can intergrate the mac drive into windows explorer.
