Why so slow?

Ok i dont think my setup should be laggy and slow.

Specs.

Epia M10000
512 ram
4gb Dane elec 133/xs CF CARD (OS and Front end only)
Home PSU for testing.

OK the only things installed on it are Tiny Xp ,Win amp mapmonkey,RR,And Digital FX 2.0 Transparent skin.

For some reason doing anything has great amount of lag.....

Would it be the CF card bottle necking me?

Would i be better off with a 40gb 3.5 HD and jus have everything installed on that.

I would have thought this mobo would be good enough.

I have the same issue and I used a P4 with a gig of ram, NLite and CF card. I believe the slowness is caused by the CF card or IDE adapter. I havent completely solved the issue yet, it is still slow but I got the system a lot faster by enabling UDMA in BIOS and ensuring that the CF card is running in UDMA mode... device manager > CF card > properties.

Still tinkering though, my setup was a lot faster with the HDD. But why?

Oh also I know that cheap CF cards can cause issues. I am using a SANDISK ULTRA II and an IDE adapter that was recommended by SFiorito, our resident CF booting expert. I've also tried different types of IDE cables (40 and 80 pin).

u need to run a seek/read test on the card. I suggest finding a benchmarking program on the net. You can run a test on the card and compare the result to a standard hdd (the program should be able to show you in a graph) that will tell you if its the drive or whatever. Sisoft sandra I believe can do this for u
