Post error, unable to resolve.

My carputer is setup on a bench atm and I havent touched it for months. Ive finally started on my upgrade again and ive run into a prob straight off the bat. When I turn it on it starts posting at me. About 1 second beeps and about 1 second apart. The cpu fan spins, hdd spins, screen has power but gets no vga signal. The computer just posts over and over till I hold the power button for 5 secs and force a shutdown.

Im running a VIA MII-12000 motherboard with a desktop psu (while on the bench)

Ive tried unplugging everything but bare basics and still no go. Ive tried removing the battery to reset the bios and nothing, Removed the ram and blew down all dust, ram back in and still nothing. Ive run out of ideas to fix this. If someone familiar with bios post messages could tell me what this one could mean I might have a better chance.

Well, the beeping is usually the motherboard telling you it's finding a problem during the POST. A constant single beep pattern usually happens when the mobo doesn't detect a processor. Try re-seating that.

He will be lucky to do that its a VIA board their soldered on. Try a different stick of ram if you can. I don't know this board but removing the battery seldom resets the BIOS these days. There should either be a CMOS button or a jumper to clear it.

if you download the manual http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/ma...erboard_id=202 there are instructions for clearing the setting but the jumpers are immediately to the left of the bios socket with the pci slot to the right.

Ok, I can test another RAM stick and ill look for a reset for the bios. Yeah the cpu is all inbuilt and non removable.

finally diagnosed this problem. Its the onboard video. Managed to borrow a pci video card , plugged it in and it booted up fine.... I cant run a video card when in the car, could there be an easy fix for this problem?

Ok fixed it. when I ran the pci vid card I F8ed into the safe mode boot screen. Selected enable vga mode (really didnt know what it did). Turned the computer off, removed the pci card and put vga cable back into mobo and bam, it works. Really dont know what was wrong in the first place, but it seams to be working 100% now and im happy. Cheers.
