since I upgraded to the new micro atx motherboard, the boot time has double.Im using all the same hardware as before the new install. I was wondering if the old bio of the old board could effect the boot time with the new board. I never deleted the old ones. Im not sure if it just overwrite the old ones. The old board is intel dg865glc and the new one is intel dg965ss. at time when I disconnect the usb external soundcard, it boots in 30sec, and over a minute when connected.then soundcard didnt have a slow boot time with my old board. The difference is the new board im running 1.86 core 2 duo 1066mhz fsb 4mb ca in single and not dual memory, but its 1gb ddr2@667mhz. The old board was p4 w/ht 2.6ghz 800mhz fsb dual 256mb ddr x 2 @ 400mhz. I dont know if that makes a difference betwwen the two systems or not, And if I need to delelte the bios, where would I look to delete the right ones? thanks

It has nothing to do with the BIOS...and you certainly wouldn't want to delete it!
I'm assuming you upgraded boards, but left the OS intact (didn't format/install)?
It might be the chipset drivers from the old board interfering...
I'd first try reinstalling the mainboard drivers...
If that doesn't help, do an upgrade/repair install of the OS...BTW, what OS are you running?
Check your startup programs, make sure your only loading essential programs...
Enable hibernation, and shutdown/restart that way should cut your boot times down quite a bit...
My ATX setup takes about 45 seconds to do a full boot to desktop (Vista SP1), so your not far off...

Im using wxp home sp2 I did leave the os intact. so just reinstall all the dg965ss drivers? I will try all the options later on,thanks But I still dont understand when I unhook my sound card it boots up fast. When hooked up to the usb port it takes 1minute 15sec to fullly load windows?

is it the windows screen with the horizontal bar, or the screen with the POST details that takes forever?

If it is the POST screen, then the motherboard is trying to communicate with the soundcard as an external hard drive to boot off of. It obviously errors out, but this erroring adds time. Go into the BIOS and optimize it by setting your HD to the primary boot device. Then disable the other boot devices, and disable USB boot support.

If it is the windows screen, then windows has its drivers messed up. Easiest way is to just reinstall. If you did a good job setting up your PC to begin with, you have 2 partitions, 1 for media, and 1 for the OS. So it isnt a big deal. If you havent done this, then here is your golden opportunity.

It the post screen then. The name of the board come up ''intel'' and it stays on that srcreen for almost a minute. Then the screen ''windows''comes up which only take 15-20 sec to fully load windows and home screen at that point. it the post that Im having problems with. I do have my hd as the first and only drive. The usb boot is disable. It has to have something to do with the sound card. But I will recheck everything in the bio.

Also make sure you manually add any HDD's in the BIOS instead of the POST trying to find them...

what do you mean by that? manually add hdd in bios

Go into the BIOS, and look for something like "Scan for Hard Disks"...
This will 'add' the HDD's to the BIOS instead of the BIOS seaching for them at every bootup...
