Re-installed WinXP OS and now external harddrive is preventing OS bootup...
Never had a problem before about external harddrives/thumb drives hanging up the computer during boot up, but ever since I re-installed the OS (fresh, new install), I have to unplug all external HD devices for windows to boot up completely.
Is it getting stuck looking for os drive? or is it locking up during windows startup? Do you see the windows progress bar screen? Go into bios and make sure hard drive order is correct. I dont see how that would have changed if all you did is format your main drive and reinstall, but worth a try.

Did you ever get this working? The only other thing i could think of is that one of the external usb drives has windows somewhat installed on it, Causing the system to try and boot from the usb drive.
Maybe....Did you update all the windows drivers? Like did you install SP2? Do all the usb devices work after the system boots up? Make sure you reinstalled all the motherboard chipset drivers. could be something not loaded right causing the usb hangup.
