LS-372 and SATA Boot
Does anyone know how to setup the BIOS so it can detect SATA drives ? with the default bios settings i can't see my harddrive when the bios starts, and windows of course then can't see a drive either. Is there something i am missing, i know the drive is fine, i just pulled from a working config ?

Im not sure if all SATA work the same. My install uses a converter to make the IDE HDD to a SATA HDD. Same thing with the DVD ROM. My MoBo detected the DVD ROM immediately, but not the HDD. Turns out the SATA converter was fried. So I switched them and it saw the HDD right away and booted up really really fast. I should have went SATA a long time ago. On my board it installs the SATA drives under THIRD MASTER, THIRD SLAVE, FOURTH MASTER and FOURTH SLAVE. Try going into your BIOS and see if there is an option to enable the 3rd master and slave.

I think mine does too, cause there is a third ide controller in the post, and the ide drives i have had attahced all report on the first controller, however there is nothing to setup in the bios, other than Legacy support, which i have tried and it makes no difference.

Doesn't seem to be any settings that will detect the sata drive, i also upgraded to bios version 2.0 with no change at all.

Are the drives SATA out of the box, or are you using converters that make the IDE drive a SATA drive?

The drives are real SATA drives, so i am not using any converters.

I just got a mail from Commell tech saying that some smd capacitor on the motherboard should be added, i guess i am not a complete idiot for not getting this to work. I think i will send it back to them for this, not really trusting my own SMD skills.

Oh wow that sucks. I guess they hoped that no one would really use SATA, lol. How many SATA drives do you have. Maybe you can cheat and just buy SATA to IDE converters, not sure if its the same speed though.

Sure i could use my IDE drives or get a converter, but i just bought the E7K200 drive which is supposed to be in the top of the laptop drive performance, of course not 1,5G or 3G Sata, but still fast. Also i am trying to make the install as small as possible, so an ide converter will only add to the size of the pc.

I actually just ordered the smd parts locally , and a friend of mine who is an electrical engineer promised he would solder it for me, don't really wan't to have to send it back.

It must be an error on some boards, which is probably why the asked for the serial of my board, other ppl have SATA working with the LS-372 board.

no what im saying is that, if there is a IDE port on the MoBo, convert it to SATA, so that way you still use the small cabling and still have the speed.

Wow, SMD soldering? Hope mine doesn't need that...
Anyways, I got into my BIOS so that I could post the applicable settings for you:
First off, my SATA drive shows up as IDE channel 2 Master. Here are teh settings it auto-detects:
HITACHI HTS722010K9S
Capacity 100GB
Cylinder 47885
Head 16
Precomp 0
Landing Zone 47884
Sector 255
Extended IDE Drive = Auto
Access Mode = Auto
I have the Hard Disk Boot Priority set to the first entry:
Ch 2M. : Hitachi HTS722010K9SA0
First boot device is set to hard disk (there is no CD plugged in).
In the OnChip IDE Device screen, I have:
IDE HDD Block Mode = Enabled
DMA = Enabled
Legacy Mode Support Mode = Disabled
SATA Mode = IDE
OnChip Secondary PCI IDE = Enabled
All the rest are set to Auto in this screen.
What BIOS version are you running? I have not reflashed mine since I got it...
I am running 3307820 1.2

My board works fine with any of my 4 7200rpm 2.5" SATA drives, tested all 4 and boot fine - even using Win XP Embedded, no worries.
Just to confirm for you, same settings as Galvitron.
You must have an older version board...
