Thoughts on Mobos

Yes, I am sort of a newbie, but I was looking at the following:

ECS GF6100-M754 (V1.0) Athlon 3200+ 754 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Micro ATX Motherboard/CPU Combo

I just happen to have 3 single gig sticks of DDR 333 PC2700 memory laying around the house.

This MOBO supports 2 GB of ram

1 PATA connector (IDE) for a maximum of 2 devices
2 SATA Connectors
4 x USB 2.0 on rear panel + 4 onboard usb 2.0

I plan on running a PCI Audio Card as my install will consist of 2 amps, 1 for my mids and highs (front and rear setup), and 2 10 inch subs.

What do you all think, would this be a good Mobo/CPU combo for a CarPc?

Have you decided on a power supply yet?
I would plan out your entire setup based on a power supply.
Set up the "box" for your power requirements and then work within that box.

That motherboard/CPU choice would be a poor choice. The CPU alone draws 89w.
You can get a AM2 from AMD or a Core 2 Duo from Intel that draw far less power.

That said, you could probably get a system working with that if you invest in a high-outpit PSU (The Opus320w comes to mind).
But if you don't have to, why should you?

All right, well my initial thought on Power Supplies was to run an M2-ATX 160W PSU

For the past 2 weekes, I have been leaning toward the M4-ATX 250W Intelligent DC-DC PSU or the Mp3Car DSATX 220 Watt Automotive Power Supply

How good/bad would this be as far as power consumption

Thanks

Obviously your looking for an overkill system that is AMD based. You should copy my setup then. I went with a IEI KINO-690S1 mobo, it has 4 serial ports, 4 sata ports, 2 sodim ports supporting 2 GB of RAM, X1200 series GPU, a DVI port, a VGA port, support for HDTV and tons more features. The processor i went with is also overkill, a AMD Turion X2 64bit 1.8 GHZ TL-56 processor. The processor you can get for $100.00 or less. The MoBo was a bit pricey, but to me its worth all the extras it has. I got that for $258.00, plus the fan you have to buy seperate, thats $24.00.

PS: it also has 4 onboard USB ports and 2 USB headers supporting 4 more. So a total of 8 USB ports.
