iPod adds 18secs boot time
I am using my iPod as a hard drive for music only. I boot with a 2.5" drive. I use RoadRunner with the DigitalFX skin. When my iPod is connected to the computer, it takes 18 seconds longer to boot than when it's not connected. Does anyone know a good way to fix this? I ordered a USB to SATA/IDE adapter for my 250GB 3.5" hard drive to use for music instead of the iPod... does anyone think that will fix the problem?

some motherboards have a setting to BOOT OTHER DEVICES.
Make sure this is turned off, as well as any options for USB BOOT.

i turned off BOOT OTHER DEVICS and a couple of other boot options in the bios as well as modifying windows settings for performance rather than appearance... all of this collectively got me 4 seconds at most.
i only spend 12 seconds in the bios until i see the windows logo
i downloaded bootvis and told it to optimize the system and that knocked off about 14 seconds!
i'm now down to 46 seconds.. and i'm pretty sure the ipod is still adding a good amount of time on the windows side of the boot, but i'm not sure how to fix it. any ideas?

Nope. It shows up as (E DANIEL'S IP" Removable Drive.
Do you use yours as a hard drive or as an iPod? I don't even have iTunes installed(Using it just like a flash drive).

i dunno but im also having trouble getting hibernate to work, so hibernate and the ipod are the two top priorities right now.. i think im going to just hook up a second hard drive via usb instead of keep trying to mess with the ipod, but i'm wondering if i will keep having the same problem. i'll be sure to post as soon as i get my ide/sata to usb adapter.

M2-ATX.. standby option won't work either . It's greyed out on the shutdown menu. I tried it as Auto and as S3 standby in the BIOS, but it still doesn't appear. Any ideas?
How did you get your iPod to work with winamp/roadrunner without making it a hard drive? I'd love to actually use my iPod, but it's currently tied down to my carputer.

in my experience, i have never been able to have an external HDD/iPod/thumb drive connected to my computers (VIA USB) without windows freezing at post for about 2 or 3 minutes then booting normally. I have turned off all USB bootable options and all booting options except my main HDD in the BIOS. I used to think it was just a bad BIOS instruction on my main gaming computer, but every computer (going on about 20 different computers now) does it. even updating to the latest BIOS on all those systems doesnt fix it. The only computer it didnt do that to me was my laptop (Gateway) and an ipod (nano).
As far as i know, i have never found a fix...
if someone knows...please do share. Ive been building and troubleshooting computers now for just shy of 9 years and still no correcting solution.

I disabled the paging file and it I'm down to 40 seconds. It doesn't hang where the iPod used to make it hang but it hangs later on, so I'm not sure if that fixed it or not. Try it and let me know. I only have 512MB of ram and it sure did help me.
I haven't had the problem with it freezing at POST though.. I'm only spending about 10 seconds in POST now.
