Will the Atom kill the D201GLY2A?
Just wondering if anyone knows the future of the D201GLY2A. I've been reading that the D201GLY2A is a lot better than the Atom in terms of performance, but that the D201GLY2A might die because Intel is pushing the Atom. But also, Intel plans to come out with a dual core atom later this year which may beat the D201GLY2A in terms of performance.
Anyone know the real story? I'm considering the D201GLY2A for my next carPC, but I can wait if the Atom is or will be better.
Thanks.

it will only be better in terms of power draw, the real world benchmark comparisons for an atom compare with older via processors, th dula core atom may be an improvement but will not catch the little valley, and besides, you should only care about power consumption in a deep cycle instance, such as a boat PC

I've been running the little valley d201gly2 with active heatsinks on the cpu, northbridge in a morex 5677 case. I just ordered the atom 1.6 because of the back panel usb ports mostly. I should have it in my hands by jun 9th. I will post up my benchmarks/results using RoadRunner shortly.

does the atom motherboard have S3 stand by? that was my big beef with the d201gly2 in terms of using it for a car computer. It's working great in my file server

I've been following other posts like this one. They're talking about the performance difference between the new Atom and the D201GLY2A.
@Ces///M3 I'm really interested in your benchmarks results.
@Dyne Are you opposed to hibernation (S4)?
@DaveDog I'll be upgrading from a VIA MII10000 and can no longer stand the sluggishness (word?). I agree, power consumption isn't a big factor for me right now. I've narrowed it down to the atom and D201GLY2A because of, mainly, the price to performance (bang for your buck). I think there's a YouTube video where an Intel employee says the current Atom performs at half the celeron 220.

It is great to see more options in the small and efficient MB world.
Figure out what features you must have and pick the best fit. I will stick with the Little Valley for now.

im interested in the dual core atom version coming out at some point,
gong from the D201GLY to the atom i dont think will be enough of a performance jump to justify buying it. since i dont really need more grunt as it is running fine..

i think its a back-jump, just read the articles! atom is a dummy architecture with very low power consumption, and the speed is comparable with old VIA C3. i have a C3 Nehemiah 1.2GHz notebook and its sadly slow, i will never buy another slowy *****...

Had a VIA MII10000 before purchasing the "Little Valley". They are exremely slow, if the Atom = C3 not even going to waste time looking at it.

I've been reading the same thing. I believe this applies to the single core atom vs celeron. But I've got no clue how a dual core atom would perform. And if a dual core atom is better than the Little Valley I'll be mad that I didn't have the patience to wait.
This intel guy says the atom is slower than the celeron:

I can, unfortunately, confirm this because that's exactly what I'm running right now. I gotta replace my MII.

I think the new VIA Nano, combined with their VX800 chip will be the next low power king, it may not be priced as low as an atom board or the little valley board, but should beat both handily, especially when considering HD video. Now we just need touchscreens that can handle HD resolutions

I swapped from a little valley to an atom with no apparent change in performance + or -. The post does 'seem' to go by quicker but I think that is a difference in bios and not necessarily horsepower.

Interesting. Do you get the same performance when running multiple programs, visualizations, GPS, etc with the Atom?

Yeah that's what I expected as I made an educated guess that a 1.2 Ghz Celeron 220 was approx equal to a 1.6 Ghz Atom in some other threads based on some CPU benchmarks. FPU operations are slower on the Atom but I don't think we'll find any carpc apps that heavily depends on that. I'm glad to hear it's about the same.

I'm using Road Runner w/ robby's e36 skin. Thus far the performance is identical as far as I can tell. Using R2 Vis (Rabidhamster.org), IG etc all seems to be working quite well albeit some 30C cooler
